We suppose this is already old news in a way since the shutdown has been concluded and we’re on to other matters, but it’s worth shining a spotlight on anyway. For one thing, we could be right back in the same situation by the middle of February. For another, the importance of securing our border is an issue we cannot afford to let slip away. And finally, this is just too damn good not to share.
A couple of days before President Trump fell on his sword and called for an end to the shutdown, a group of women married to Border Patrol agents sent an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), inviting her to the border where she could see firsthand why a wall was so essential to the nation’s security. Penned by Jill Demanski and Renea Perez, the letter was published on Facebook the Thursday before the shutdown ended.
“We would like to show you around! You don’t need to bring any security detail,” the wives wrote. “Our husbands/boyfriends/fiancés/wives/significant others are actually very good at their jobs, thank goodness! And since you see no threat here, I’m sure you can just make a quick flight down here alone. Hey, Trump might even allow you to use his plane for this visit!!
“When you ask Trump to open the government, then you’ll negotiate, even though you already said you won’t secure our border … This is kind of like when our kids want to eat dessert first, but they swear they’ll eat their broccoli after … This is kind of like that, but no notes dumb enough to play that game!” they continued.
Our favorite paragraph:
You don’t even need to worry about those MS-13 gang members you’ll see running across the border. Our guys and gals catch a lot of them. Like I said, they are good at their jobs!! I mean, if we had a wall we’d catch way more of them. But thanks to your laws, the ones we do catch we’ll take to our huge air-conditioned building, feed them, let them clean up, offering them clothes/hats/socks, maybe play on the billiard tables, or ping pong, or watch a movie, all while they wait for our charter bus to drive them to their “family” that lives in L.A. I mean, you don’t need to worry about that … OMG I just realized … Isn’t L.A. part of your state?? Wow, sorry. My bad!
Good line, although take it from us: She still doesn’t worry about it. They won’t be bothering her while she splits her time between her mansion in Washington and her ivory tower in San Francisco.
It’s no surprise that Pelosi decided not to take the women up on their invitation; when a group of angry Angel Moms (women whose children have been killed by illegal aliens) showed up in her office, she couldn’t even be bothered to say hello. So she’s certainly not going to take the time to meet with federal workers or their families if it means learning something new about the importance of border security. That would require her to care about something more significant and substantial than “winning,” and well, that’s just not Nancy Pelosi.
