Once upon a time, Whoopi Goldberg was seen as a “comedian” in the American zeitgeist, but she’s never been funnier than she is these days on ABC’s The View. Of course, the lion’s share of her hilarity is unintentional. She got some terrific belly laughs on Thursday, though, when she took exception to President Trump’s comments about the persecution he’s faced as a politician.
In a speech at the Coast Guard graduation ceremony last week, President Trump said, “Look at the way I have been treated lately. Especially by the media. No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.”
Goldberg raised the part of her face where her eyebrows would normally be and said she could think of at least one politician who had been treated worse.
“I did want to point out, there have been a couple who have been perhaps treated more unfairly or as unfairly,” she said. “Let’s talk about, I don’t know, Barack Obama?”
Cue riotous applause from the idiot audience.
“I make this point specifically about this man who for almost six years, seven years, insisted he wasn’t an American, didn’t have America’s best values in mind because he wasn’t born here, that he was a Muslim,” Whoopi continued. “All complicated by this guy, and so I figure, you have been in less than 120 days? And you think it’s rough now? This guy went through it for eight years, and came out still a man I’m proud of him. Proud of this president.”
It’s just stunning. Like, what world do these people live in where Obama was treated even CLOSE to as badly as Trump has been treated? Whoopi can’t even make the point. All she can do is talk about what Trump has said about Obama, as though being criticized by one guy is comparable to the day-in, day-out THRASHING that President Trump has taken from every corner of the mainstream media. Look at what Obama said about Trump, by the way, and you’ll see that the score is more than settled.
In fact, Obama was treated like the second coming of Christ by the same “journalists” who now treat Trump like His opposite. Whoopi literally couldn’t have come up with a weaker retort.
Our real concern, though, is that people actually applauded this nonsense. Do they go out and find the dumbest people in the country to sit in The View’s audience, or are they just drawn to the studio naturally, like bugs to a porch light?
