Obama Imposes Sanctions on Russia, Trump Says “Move On”

To cap off one of the most unusual years in American political history, the Obama administration announced Thursday that they were imposing sanctions on Russian agencies and individuals believed to have hacked into the Democratic National Committee and other political servers.

Though top Obama officials – including the president himself – have said that part of the American response to the hacks would remain covert and unpublicized, few believe that these sanctions will do much to deter Russia from further meddling.

All the same, they are one of the U.S.’s strongest responses – if not the strongest – to cyberwarfare in the digital age. And lest there be any confusion, Russia was not the only target audience.

From the NY Times:

The sanctions were also intended to box in President-elect Donald J. Trump. Mr. Trump has consistently cast doubt that the Russian government had anything to do with the hacking of the D.N.C. or other political institutions, saying American intelligence agencies could not be trusted and suggesting that the hacking could have been the work of a “400-pound guy” lying in his bed.

Mr. Trump will now have to decide whether to lift the sanctions on the Russian intelligence agencies when he takes office next month, with Republicans in Congress among those calling for a public investigation into Russia’s actions. Should Mr. Trump do so, it would require him to effectively reject the findings of his intelligence agencies.

Judging by Trump’s reaction to the hacks thus far, it’s hard to imagine that he will stand by any punitive action taken by the Obama administration. On Wednesday, when asked about the impending sanctions, Trump was not terribly enthusiastic.

“I think we ought to get on with our lives,” he said. “I think that computers have complicated our lives very greatly. The whole age of computer has made it where nobody knows exactly what is going on. We have speed, we have a lot of other things, but I’m not sure we have the kind of security we need.”

It’s clear that even now, Trump has his doubts about the Russian government’s involvement in this episode. In the broader picture, though, the Kremlin’s interference – to the extent that it exists – is standing in the way of Trump’s ultimate goal, which is to pursue normalized relations with Russia. At his core, Trump is a pragmatist. He knows we can play the sanctions game until the universe collapses or we can start mending fences and moving forward.

Alas, until January 20th, Obama still has the ball.

He should definitely lift the sanctions Obozo and his goon squad put in place. This is nothing more than the obomanation administration causing more trouble for America and the world proving once again that obozo is nothing but an oversized petulant man baby.

    • Mary Thoeni

      Childish nane calling.

Had Obama done anything to earn the trust and confidence with the American people during his two terms we may be more prone to side with him. However, his has done very little of anything that had any real impact on addressing our nations real problems. His attitude seems to have been; leave it alone and he problem will fade away.
His biggest efforts seems to have been in impressing foreign countries with his flowery speeches and HUGE financial contributions of tax payers money to some other countries needs.
America will be better off without him.
      THEN, that leaves the future. – – – –
We know what a president should mean to, and do for, the nation and the people. We know Obama is a failure in most of what we expected from him. We do not want another such as Obama; and, Bush was just about as bad leaving similar problems for Obama that Obama is now leaving for Trump.
I would say though, that although we are seeing some promising efforts and talk from Trump; we will not know for sometime whether he will be any better or any worse that Obama. He is certainly going into the job with far, far more criticism and public concern than any other president over the past years. The vast majority of that though is coming from CNN and MSNBC, both of which have shown their weak professional abilities for honest and balanced reporting. We can only hope he shows us he is and can become a real blessing to the nation and the American people. We can not stand three failed administrations in a row.

I think Trump will be a great Pres. He has knowledge and know how to get things done. He is honest (not like obummer) and he loves America. He didn’t need to run for Pres. but his love for America made him want to save it from the disastrous run of obummer.
        Nancy

    • Mathew Molk

This will be the shortest sanction in history. 23 days…

And where do they get ” reject the findings of his intelligence agencies.:???? He HAS NO INELEGANCE AGENCIES yet. It is the royal exalted boma’s guys that came up with this totally stupid crap.

Here is the fact, THERE WAS NO HACK by ANYBODY. One or more of the people in the DNC leaked that info ON PURPOSE.

More BS lies to give to the Clinton News Network to send out tot he useful idiots.

      • Chet

Spot on – And Julian Assange all but named DNC programmer, Seth Rich, as his source. Seth Rich was assassinated on the DC streets and the FBI refuses to investigate.

    • Roy Fredrichsen

That will be just as effective as O’Bummers “Line in the sand” was. Doesn’t mean a thing.

  • Rob

Haven’t heard much out of BLM lately, no cops murdered, Soros is making noise from losing with Hillary, Micheal Moore is all but telling us that Trump may be targeted for assassination. Something chaotic is about to go down, it’s too quiet! I remember when Gabby Gifford was shot, and thinking to myself, you know why her? When you cross Soros, or are an obstacle in his way, bad things happen. Gifford was pushing solar power really strong and Soros had bought a lot of shares in Duke energy, She got in his way and boom! Well Soros lost a lot of money, leverage, and opportunities when Trump won! So if I were Trump I’d be extremely cautious because it’s almost like the calm before the storm! By the things obama has been saying and doing it’s got me wondering if a coup allowing him a third term is in the works, a whole lot of money was spent, a lot of people are dead, all because of this “New World Order” and I personally don’t think that the global so called elitists did all that for just eight years, I believe they are about to go off! I believe that the combination of Trumps election, and the Russian hacking fake news is trouble for America! The depopulation is on their calendar as the water supply, droughts, and fires, take their toll. When certain people get nervous, mountains are moved to keep them happy! So, look out!!

  • DrAnalog

Trump needs to undo everything Obama has done.

  • bagster53

remember how he campaigned on ending wars , well he didn’t end jack sh*t, we are still in iraq and afganistan , he left the war in syria continue , he built isis and started another war , and now he is trying to start a war with russia , he has given billions to terrorist in iran to fund terrorisum , the freak needs to be tried for treason

    • David in MA

Yes and either life in GITMO or the firing squad.

    • Duane

Obama turned his back on the Ameriacn people and the rest of the world.
He has the idea that all it takes to lead is make flowery speeches and throw more money into problems. With a $2.2 Billion dollar marketing budget he can buy a lot of promotional stuff that will convince people he is doing a great job in spite of what he does or fails to do; and the media, drawing a huge part of that marketing budget, is more than happy to sell him and his agenda.

    • Vera Morlunghi

I agree with you like your comment short but to the point

  • Albert L Biele

How does sending 30 Russians back to their own country going to stop the Russians from spying on our country? They have been spying on America long before computers were invented. Did you notice, Obama’s anger was concentrated on the elections and not the Classified and Top Secrete US documents that were exposed by Hillary? So, the question is; why did Obama go on and campaign for Hillary, after knowing she breached our security, but had no qualms about going after Russia for their breach, and how about China’s many breaches. The fact is that, Americans do not predicate their votes on Russian opinions, wherein, Obama predicated his actions on the Russian breach, because it interfered with his initial plan to financially destroy the middle-class i.e. he knew Hillary would protect his bankrupt Obamacare, and the 10’s of thousands of corporate regulations he issued to stifle the American economy. The recent land grab will cost our country billions, and who know what else he has planned these next 20 days. He’s an evil man.

    • Anh Benbrook

Obama most definitely an evil man. He doesn’t care about this country. He would like to see USA becoming Muslim ‘s nation.

    • Barbara

I would have loved so much to have seen Obama’s expression when Trump won the election and Hillary lost.. he as many of the dems thought this witch was truly going to win.. Hillary would have continued his abuse to the American people and this one of the big reasons she lost.. and Trump won.. He will hopefully pull us out of this hole Obama has dug for us… worse off now for sure than when he took over..

  • With another 19 days to go before the inauguration Obama has PLENTY on time to do unimaginable damage to our country and our relationships with other countries as well…Russia, China, Japan, N.Korea, and GOD knows who else. He is using his time to build barriers for TRUMP to jump over which he will….it’s just precious time that could bee used much wiser. Obama is so furious that his time in our whitehouse is OVER !! No more free vacations, rides on AIRFORCE ONE, ( his FAVORITE THING) No more GOLF, guess he’ll have to start paying for something himself, although GOD knows he’ll still be living off tax payers as many of his followers are as well. The party is over, let’s just hope those 19 days go swiftly and TRUMP can undo most of the damage. There is NO Obama legacy, unless you call him the WORST NIGHTMARE our country has ever had. An arrogant disgrace !! smh

  • Let’s hope the next 19 days go swiftly and president elect TRUMP can undo the damage that Obama has piled in front of him. Obama has proved to be an enemy to America, who has willfully attempted to destroy us and everything we stand for. Obama leaves NO legacy except one of greed, smooth talking and arrogance. He has talked the talk, but has proven he cannot walk the walk (unless he’s on the golf course) . JANUARY 20, 2017 CAN’T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH !!

  • David in MA

Obama is acting big with only 19 days to go, or does he plan on not going?

  • Obama is just trying to cause trouble for Trump.Just like a spoiled little boy who got beat in a game. Some one should ask him out right if he had Assange killed or where he is.

  • Chet

I don’t care if it was the Vatican that hacked Hillary’s emails.
What matters is what those emails revealed – not who revealed them.
We are allowing the media to divert our attention to a “shiny object”
and not concentrate on Hillary’s prosecution

    • volarekc

Yes, and the Democrats never said that what was in the emails was untrue. They were just angry that they had been revealed!

  • Chet

This is also Obama’s revenge for someone uncovering what the Democrats and Hillary were doing to our political system. The real abuse of the election was Hillary fixing the primaries to Sanders exclusion. The Democrats are acting as if the discovery of their corruption and deceit is the sin, and not the acts themselves. Criminals think this way. They are all innocent and never accept accountability. It is always someone else’s fault that they are discovered. We need to get back on topic and seek Hillary’s prosecution – for the good of the nation and to protect our election system from similar internal sabotage

    • Mathew Molk

He has only 18 days and hours to keep it up though so he better get spending fast if he intends to go through the whole 2.2 Bil.

BTW,,,Where did the info he has ANY marketing budget come from and where did the alleged money come from.

      • Mathew Molk

Hey, Something is wrong with the clock.

My reply is stamped “January 1 2017 at 11;03 pm….Neat trick….It’s 6:06pmhere in Cleveland. Is the DNC or Soros running this site or something?

  • Obama is the worst President we have ever had.He has tried to destroy this country from day one and is still trying.

  • Clint Hall

Obama acts like he has a 3rd graders mentality and bully disposition.
I wonder who will pay for his next vacation?

  • Chet

In the objective lens of history, it will be seen that Obama’s prime intention, throughout his reign, was to destroy the US as a world power. He has emaciated our military, exploded our debt, destroyed our productivity, insulted and betrayed our friends, tempted our enemies, and inflamed tensions all over the globe. His methodology: he uses his apparent incompetence as a ruse to cover up his premeditated, deliberate and systematic destruction of the US as a superpower. Russia and Islamic powers are just the beneficiaries. Obama is far worse than just “The Worst US President of All Time”.
