Rep. Michael McCaul: “We Are Going to Build the Wall”

In a FoxNews.com op-ed, Rep. Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, promised to work closely with Donald Trump to fulfill the promises he made to the American people on illegal immigration.

“Starting next month, the people are going to get what they asked for,” McCaul wrote. “We are going to build the wall.  Period.”

McCaul said he would help the Trump administration do away with Obama’s “reckless immigration policies” and get back to enforcing congressional law the way it is written.

And, he said, the battle to protect U.S. borders would go well beyond a physical barrier.

“We are talking about a historic, multi-layered defense system so that drug cartels and terrorists cannot simply slip through the cracks,” he wrote. “This means more border patrol agents, new authorities, aerial surveillance, sensors, and other technology to make sure we seal our territory from illegals for good.”

McCaul said he was also on board with the second half of Trump’s iconic campaign rallying cry: To make Mexico pay for it.

“Congress will seek to fund this effort straight-away, but we cannot simply stick Americans with the bill,” he wrote. “Our neighbors have failed to contain the crisis within their own countries, and they must have skin in the game to fix it once and for all. That is why I’m proposing we put Mexico on a ‘payment plan’ and fulfill President-Elect Trump’s demand that our allies help resolve this mess.”

McCaul said a variety of strategies could be used to get Mexico to foot the bill, including new immigration fees, security tolls, and seizing cartel assets. He said that Mexico and other Latin American countries would also be compelled to contribute and to beef up their own border security.

While Ann Coulter and others are already bracing themselves for a Trump betrayal on immigration, McCaul doesn’t sound like he’s advocating the same old do-nothing approach. Maybe the WALL won’t be quite what the voters imagined and maybe Mexico won’t pay for it in the expected way. Or maybe it will all go exactly as Trump promised. Either way, we have the best chance ever to reverse the amnesty policies that both parties have been chasing for decades and get serious about border security. If Trump does that, in any form, we’ll be a lot better off than we were.

  • i sure hope they do build it.

    • JYuma

The Law, Act to build it has already been written, they have been actually building the Fence. To see the Act for building the Fence go here,
      Secure Fence Act of 2006.”

      • Karen Rivers

The US needs more than a fence that can be cut or dug under. My Facebook group started June 2015 , Build the Wall feels we should have a Wall much like the Burlin Wall that has been build in Germany this is the only way we can protect our boarders, because as it has been said a country with out boarders is no country and can not protect itself. After we build our US/Mex boarder wall we will need to have more officers and then become gofers in order to fill in ALL the tunnels. This will be a dangerous and ON GOING issue.

  • I too am disappointed in this selection. But action will be the real test. If they do what they say they are going to be right on. However, what will be done about all the illegals currently in this country? If something is not done with this group all is for naught. Let’s see what happens. This guy does not have a good record on this issue, he is establishment. Further, is there any reason Gore the idiot would be considered for anything? Keep moving in the direction and we will lndeed see anarchy. We voted for Trump don’t roll over. This is all very disturbing.

So we spend millions building the wall, If we don’t keep people from breaking through the wall what good does it do. If they break in to the United States they are envading the U.S. just like any country. If they come from Mexico then it is Mexicos problem and we should charge Mexico.

  • Crazy elf

I do believe a “barrier” of some sort will be constructed. I also believe the millions of dollars being sent out of the U.S. by illegals will be halted. If nothing else, put a “penalty” on the monies leaving our country.
Drug cartels and other criminal elements need to be removed from our country!
Those who’ve come here illegally, yet have made themselves part of our great nation, (ie; paid taxes, was never on our welfare system, worked hard to become assimilated, etc.) will be given the opportunity to become citizens. That, of course, depends upon their willingness!
I believe President Elect Trump, or his cabinet, will look into this issue. It’s been over-looked by the Obama administration for far too long!
Obama’s administration has hampered, and refused, the many law enforcement agencies; ie; border patrol, ICE, state and local law enforcement agencies, from performing the duties of their sworn oaths!

  • Bruce Andrews

Add to this STOP ALL MUSLIMS REFUGEES AND OTHERWISE FROM ENTERING THE U.S.A. Deport all muslims that are hear, period. ALL MUSLIMS TO INCLUDE EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD, “ALL OF THEM”! Take all the money and assets they have. Use this to offset some of the expense it has cost the American tax payers. SEARCH ALL MASQUES AND MILLITANT TRAINING FACILITIES. Confiscate all the money and weapons caches. enforce the laws on illegal aliens. Deport them “ALL” of them every man woman and child. However, take all the money and assets they have all of it to offset the expenses they have cost the American tax payer.

    • Earl

Bruce Andrews, I consider myself to be a constitutional conservative, but your comment is so extreme as to give conservatism a bad name, and that makes me believe you are probably a liberal Democrat plant, who has posted here to do as much harm as possible to Donald Trump’s effort to stop illegal immigration. I’m in favor of the wall, and deporting those who have overstayed their visas or committed crimes, as well as reducing the number of green card workers. Your comments about seizing assets are over the top, I believe, and not anything that Donald Trump would contemplate doing. Your comment does more harm than good.

When not writing posts such as this do you spend your time killing ants with a 16 lbs. Sledge Hammer?

Remember this when your throat is being sliced.

      • Muslims like Mexicans, they all have relatives in their mother country and if they don’t like what America is doing to their country they raise a stink here.

You could use some lessons in spelling. It would make your argument stronger.

    PROBLEM: Unauthorized visitors

DEFINITION: Unauthorized visitors are those persons who enter a country without legal authorization and those who overstay their authorized period.

CAUSES, REASONS, AND PROVENANCE: The main reason for unauthorized visitors is that people want and hope to improve their lives and the lives of their families and will gravitate to those situations where the economics provide the incentives to make the change.

DISCUSSION: I think all would stipulate that anyone has the right to attempt to better his or her conditions insofar as those efforts do not infringe upon the rights of others.

Each nation has the right and obligation to establish immigration laws for the orderly and rational assimilation of authorized immigrants.

Do the following comments provide justification for unauthorized immigration?

    1. Unauthorized immigrants are looking to better their situations.
    2. Unauthorized immigrants provide inexpensive labor and are hard workers.
    3. This Nation was built upon immigrants.
    4. It is virtually impossible to find and deport 12,000,000 unauthorized immigrants.

The answers to the above four should be an unequivocal “NO”.

If anyone disagrees with that, I will appreciate his or her reasoning for a “yes” response.

RECOMMENDED “COMPREHENSIVE” SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM:

A foolproof system must be devised, implemented, with substantial penalties for non-compliance that will verify a person’s legal authorization to work in the United States.

The concept of “anchor babies” should be eliminated, either by a pragmatic interpretation of the 14th Amendment (displaced the disputed Civil Rights legislation of 1866, which was passed by Congress over Andrew Johnson’s veto, and which was proposed by Congress six months after the 13th Amendment had been ratified), by Congressional legislation in accordance with Section 5 of the 14th Amendment, or by a Constitutional Amendment, that could and should be passed by the House and Senate and ratified by the requisite 38 states within a year.

There should be a $4.00 (arbitrary) per gallon increase in the federal excise tax on gasoline and diesel, at the pump.
A tax credit would be allowed any U.S. taxpayer (who possesses a valid driver’s license and submits proof of vehicle registration and proof of insurance) in the amount of $2,000.00 per year (10,000 miles @ 20 MPG = 500 gallons, thus, 500 X $4.00 = $2,000.00).
Ancillary benefits would include that this federal excise tax would be collected from all visitors, authorized and unauthorized, and this would stimulate purchasers of new vehicles to demand more mileage efficiency, i.e., there would be no need for the government to force manufacturers to increase mileage efficiencies. The marketplace would be effective.

Federal legislation should be passed that would eliminate all minimum wage laws. The “minimum wage” concept should be replaced with a massive expansion of the EITC regulations, which would cover all U.S. taxpayers who are older than 22 years of age.
Another benefit would be that labor costs would be shifted from “above-the-line” to “below-the-line”, making our industries more competitive.

Sanctuary cities must be declared illegal.

CONCLUSION: If the above changes were legislated, a substantial number of unauthorized visitors would conclude that it would be better to end their visits, since the economics of remaining in the United States, without authorization, would be substantially diminished.
After a year, the situation should be reviewed and adjustments should be made to further the resolution of this serious matter.

It is logical that a newborn should assume the nationality of the mother, regardless of the venue of the birth, therefore, the strategy of a mother, who has no authorization to be in the U.S., giving birth in the United States should be of no consequence.

This is a nascent effort at offering a pragmatic and rational solution to this serious matter.

NOTES: This will be a process, i.e., not an overnight solution. I will appreciate all comments, critical as well as supportive, with the former being most appreciated if rational reasons are included.

Representative Sherman is aware of this article, has promised a response and has failed to do so. We, the People are begging for leaders, not pure politicians who have embedded within their DNA the need to withhold the truth.

Many Muslims have been in this country for more than a hundred years, living peacefully as citizens, and some dying in American armed forces. As for that wall next to Mexico, undocumented immigrants have found other ways to enter the country: Canada, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and tunnels under any wall, and others by planes at night.

  • LeeJai Cook

December 6, 2016. LeeJai Cook, Co-World Ruler, Roaring Springs, Texas USA. Elijah, Co-World Ruler, has stated that all illegal immigrants will be returned to their country of origin. He has also said that he will abolish the religion of Islam. These two acts should solve a few of our problems with illegal immigrants.

  • Francis Dearth

Undocumented immigrants should be deported now! The ones that the president brought and has coming should be turned around and sent some place else besides the U S A . The ones that have been here for 30 years or more should be left here. Its the younger ones that are causing the problems here.
