Report: Trump Considering Executive Action on Social Media’s Bias

While it’s unclear from Politico’s report what type of executive order President Trump could deliver that would allow the federal government to crack down on Silicon Valley’s anti-conservative bias, the news from within the White House is that such an order is indeed in the works.

Under pressure from Republicans in Congress over their constant harassment of conservative personalities, Twitter, Facebook, and Google have yet to offer any evidence that they are intending to change their ways. But if the White House can come up with a solution to the rampant censorship currently taking place within these companies – even if it isn’t legally binding – it could force the tech giant’s to finally confront this growing issue.

From Politico:

The White House is circulating drafts of a proposed executive order that would address allegations of anti-conservative bias by social media companies, according to a White House official and two other people familiar with the matter — a month after President Donald Trump pledged to explore “all regulatory and legislative solutions” on the issue.

None of the three would describe the contents of the order, which one person cautioned has already taken many different forms and remains in flux. But its existence, and the deliberations surrounding it, are evidence that the administration is taking a serious look at wielding the federal government’s power against Silicon Valley.

“If the internet is going to be presented as this egalitarian platform and most of Twitter is liberal cesspools of venom, then at least the president wants some fairness in the system,” the White House official said. “But look, we also think that social media plays a vital role. They have a vital role and an increasing responsibility to the culture that has helped make them so profitable and so prominent.”

While we wouldn’t underestimate Trump and his irritation at the raw deal conservatives have gotten on social media, our guess at the outset is that any execution action with any teeth whatsoever would be immediately challenged as a threat to the First Amendment. That’s not something today’s left cares about all that much, but we’re sure they’ll restore their respect for the Bill of Rights the moment Trump does anything to threaten their freedom to censor his supporters.

Our take on this whole thing has always been that we win when we shine a bright spotlight on Silicon Valley’s bias, just as we’re beginning to win the same battle against the mainstream media. When people wake up (and wise up) to these little censors in their little fiefdoms, much of their power will vanish automatically. In the meantime, let’s not make the mistake of becoming what we despise.

  1. Trump is so right about holding the media accountable for their bias actions and reporting lies and twisting the facts!!! We need honest and factual news reporting and to stop the media from being bias and spreading hate and division and MSNBC and CNN and others are so very guilty of lies and bias reporting, and they have been debunked more times than anyone can count, for there hate and bias attacks on are president alone shows the true colors of these despicable news stations!!!

      • That depends on whether you are considered a news publisher or a communication platform. Do the rights to censor ‘contributors’ of the former applied to the censorship of ‘users’ of the latter? And can Twitter or Facebook be both?

  2. Yes he should hold social media accountable Stop and think about the power they have! And what is their goal? One mind set to rule the world?

    • They can manipulate Conservative messages to sound like Liberals, and they can also manipulate elections. They have far too much power. And yes, I believe they are all part of the globalists’ plans to have a One World Government, even if they don’t realize it.

    • CNN has been found guilty on top many occasions spreading fake information on the President and just recently trying to sway some of their guess to go against the President in their questions. What will it take to remove CNN from reporting news.

  3. The internet should pay an excise tax to be used to put a commissioned regulators just like we have the Federal Communications Commission. The internet rights commission which oversee all internet service providers and make sure there is fair trade practices with the ability to fine internet service extreme penalties for violating Federal law. Let the Commission hold hearings and draft administrative laws that govern internet providers to operate with fairness.

  4. Do not stop with silicon valley, the real division is the so called Main Street media that is an arm of the Democrat Party or the Democrat Party is an arm of the Main Street Media. They are so intertwined you sometimes you do not know who is in charge. They have a theme of the day and you know what it is in about two minutes and every lousy lying so called Main Street Media pushes it 24/7 until the next rotten lie is said to be the lie of the day. Who ever licenses the above should fine them 1 billion each and give them 60 days to clean up their act or lose their license to give the news. Those should be used to people that have been injured, killed or harassed by the Main Street medias lies and fake news.

  5. Even though I am a staunch Republican, I do not agree with everything that Trump tweets and how he responds to many challenges. I will vote for him in 2020. The news is so biased that I do not even watch it on TV. The late night entertainers are disgusting on how they are treating our President. Yes there needs to be a halt, whatever it takes to stop all the FAKE news. Why don’t they ever give stories that are heart warming? Just saying.

  6. FCC can shut them down because of their fake news and lies and unwarranted censoring–I can name many marketers who were fined heavily for making false claims and giving out corrupt marketing ads and social media is violating the Constitution–what good is the law of the land if not enforced–and people can boycott them and not buy their ads!?
