Which Republicans Lived Up to Their “Pledge”?

It was one of the most unusual moments in the history of televised debates. Last August, with rumors swirling that Donald Trump would yank his campaign out of the Republican Party primaries and run for president as a third-party candidate, the Fox News moderators asked the entire field if there was anyone who would not pledge their support to the eventual nominee.

Only Trump raised his hand, telling viewers that he would only make that pledge if he felt the RNC treated him fairly throughout the election.

As it turned out, of course, Trump himself became the nominee and all talk of a third-party run became meaningless.

But the other candidates – the ones who vowed to support the nominee no matter who it turned out to be – wound up regretting their hasty pledge.

Well, some of them.

This week, Fox News reported that Ohio Governor John Kasich cast his ballot for…John McCain. The write-in vote meant nothing – McCain is not among the approved write-in candidates – but it showed that Kasich is not a man of his word. The news came as no surprise to anyone who has followed Kasich since the primaries; he’s been an adamant NeverTrumper and even refused to lend the nominee his extensive Ohio campaign infrastructure.

Kasich is widely expected to make another bid for the nomination in 2020.

But Kasich’s not the only Republican candidate who has welshed on the pledge.

Jeb Bush, who was the odds-on favorite to win the nomination (in simpler times), said earlier this year that he would not be willing to vote for Trump. In a Facebook post, Bush said that Trump “has not demonstrated the temperament or strength of character” required to be president.

For months, it seemed that Ted Cruz would follow the examples set by Bush and Kasich, but he finally came around to supporting Trump in September.

Marco Rubio has taken the Paul Ryan approach – criticizing Trump whenever he’s asked about him, while still maintaining that he supports him over Hillary Clinton.

The rest of the main stage candidates have endorsed Trump with one degree of enthusiasm or another, though only Chris Christie, Ben Carson, and Mike Huckabee have heartily campaigned for the billionaire.

It remains to be seen if Kasich and Bush will suffer politically for their vow-breaking ways.

  • Albert L Biele

John Kasich is a hypocrite, and as put revenge before patriotism when he dishonorably reneged on his pledge to support the republican nominee; he is, at the very least, a turncoat. He has proven to be a man that is of, for, and by him-self. His treachery and that of the Bushes, whom we voted for, is totally inexcusable.

    • Listen, Kasich has been Anti American ever since he voted in favor of the NAFTA Treaty back when Bill Clinton was president in 93, and the treaty went into effect in January of 94. John McCaine voted in favor of it to. Probably 50 % of our manufacturing base left the USA for Mexico. Looks like little Detroit in Monterrey Mexico.
I will get even with Kasichs come election day and John Mc Caine Too.

    • JMan

Albert I fully agree with everything you said except you were too generous calling him a man which is an insult to real men who keep their pledges
Kasich is a punk and a prick

    • Yvonne Fileccia

      AMEN TO THAT………….

      • Kasich has been a mystery to me. I never understood how he got where he is today. He looks like a scarecrow and that is insulting a well dressed scarecrow. As for the Bush family. They are globalists and always have been. They also have very very strong ties with the Clintons. RE: Mena, Ark.
Additionally, Bush made quite a bit of money with the Haiti debacle he and the Clintons partnered in together.

    • JYuma

What else would one except of him? He took $9 million from Soros for his campaign in the Primary’s. He is, was for Planed Parents, their Murder of UN-BORN children.
We could not stand to see or hear him during the debates, as with Bush, and Carly. All lying Failures.

      • Pamela

All of these never Trump candidates would have broke all of their promises to the American people just as they did to the RNC. Thank God for Donald Trump!

      • Mr. Bill

I read $675,000 once, Killary took one check from Soros for 8 million. So we know they should lose their citizenship and be deported. Or put in Gitmo?

    • Mary Thoeni

Kaish is a very intelegent man. Trump = Fourth Reich. He is not yet in office, but his brand of government has already begun to take over.

      • gary29

        Mary
You didn’t take you medicine today did you?

        • Jeff

          Thank you Mary!

          • Jeff

            Cancel this reply.

I meant to say Thank You Gary29!

            Mary is off her meds!

      • factorywork

We will see if Kasich or Jeb ever have a decent political career again. If either were to run in the future, I will vote against them, after all I am just following their lead and the election cannot be that important.

      • dboss911

Mary, it’s spelled intelligent. Please, don’t forget to take your meds.

      • Mr. Bill

IF “Intelligent” means “Can be bought” you are correct. Taking $675,000 from Mr. George Soros should cost him his position, and citizenship. Then deportation and/or prison. Blagoyavitch got prison and didn’t take a dime!
My I.Q. is 165, but I don’t lie or take bribes, guess that makes me stupid?

    • Ann

How in the world can John Kasich’s constituents stand him?? – He is a Low-Life, Sorry Excuse of a Traitor Turncoat !!!

    • For sure I will never vote for kasick or jeb bush in the future; and as a matter of fact I placed both at the bottom of the 17 during this years primary.

    • Billie

      Well said

    • Mathew Molk

And don’t forget Rob the Rino Portman. He was elected last night but I see him a a one term 2 faced, back stabbing PC Saboteur.

  • Linda Anderson

You see a person’s true colors when they are faced with defeat and arrogance. Kasich is no better than Hillary. They are both into themselves and not the American people. This election is crucial because of the Supreme Court, and Kasich knows that better than anyone, and because of his stubbornness and arrogance toward Trump, he thinks this is a good thing. Unbelievable!

  • Elaine Morris

Albert, even Bush’s Mommy told him not to run. The man (if that’s what anyone wants to refer to him as…) is a weak, pitiful excuse for a Bush. He’ll lean towards ANYONE and EVERYONE who pats him on the shoulder or smiles at him. He reminds me of the ugly, skinny little boy in the first grade that everyone made fun of.

He has no ethics or a set moral code. He IS an empty suit. Kasich is a weak man also.

    • Francisco Machado

Trump “has not demonstrated the temperament or strength of character” What an ironic comment to come from Progressive lap dog Jeb Bush.

    • JYuma

Actually, The Hole Bush Family, all but one , has shown that they are not Republicans as they have tried to make the people of this country believe.
Their History to country is not in question. Their Present is.

  • Joseph C. Moore, USN Ret.

Of course, those globalists (like the Bush dynasty) would not support anyone who is not in their (globalist) establishment. It doesn’t matter whether they disingenuously call themselves “republican ” or “democrat”, they are ALL for the NWO which requires the destruction of the Constitution of our Republic so we may become under the thumb of the ultra-monied world anocrats.

    • I agree with you.

    • Right on!!!! I am a military wife having lived in 2 Socialist countries—–and let me tell you, IT IS NOT PRETTY!!!!. THE COMMON PERSON HAS NOTHING, AND THE GOVERNMENT THAT CONTROLS TAKES AWAY ALL YOUR PRIVILEGES, YOUR FREEDOMS, YOUR RELIGION,YOUR GUNS, TAXES ARE SKY HIGH SO THAT YOU CANNOT MAKE A LIVING, EVERYONE IS CORRUPT JUST LIKE THAT MEAN HILLARY CLINTON. The woman is a LUNATIC. WATCH OUT AMERICA AND VOTE FOR TRUMP—AT LEAST HE WILL NOT TAKE THIS COUNTRY DOWN LIKE THOSE SLEAZEBALLS HILLARY AND BILL THERE WILL BE A DESTRUCTION OF OUR CONSTITUTION IF
HILLARY KILLERY GETS IN—SHE IS FOR WORLD GLOBALIZATION. HER BRAIN IS FRIED. JACKLYN INCOLORADO

    • Ko

      Mr. Moore,
You Sir are correct. The Bushes are all for a one world gov’t., just as are so many others that are on the gravy train, but just as Gods Word tells us “There is nothing done in secret that shall not be revealed”
The exposed darknesses that have surfaced and come to “light” are for these end time days so that the blind eyes and ears will be opened to the total corruption in our nation before the coming of our Lord. All have a choice to make on this side of the grave, and the side we chose will determine where we will spend eternity—if you know the meaning of this.

  • gary29

Bush and Kasich should have their GOP credentials pulled. Neither one of them are much of a Republican anyway. However lying seems to be par for the course from politicians.

  • Everett Dickens

This lying fool should give up any hope of being elected as president, he doesn’t have the temperment to be the chief executive of this country. Perhaps he should stick to being governor of his state, that seems to be the limit of his ability. Any way, we have enough rinos and really don’t need one in the White House. Sad that our party was reduced to such a number of fools and hasbeens. Trump outshined the heir apparent, Bush, so badly that it was pitiful, but then we don’t need another of that dynasty in office. So this fool and the other no trumpers should grow up and get with the program of defeating killary.

  • cliff

VOTERS in these States, these need to “remember this” when these “traitors” come up for re-election.
THIS act shows their actual “true colors”.
Just more sleazy “politicians” acting like spoiled brats that can’t have “their” way, so they pack up their “toys” and go home to pout and cry.

  • Bruce Andrews

WE MUST GET “AWAY” FROM ALL PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS. WE MUST SUPPORT THE COMMON CHRISTIAN MAN. WE MUST PUT LIMITS ON HOW MANY TERMS A PERSON CAN BE IN OFFICE, (2 TERMS). WITH TERM LIMITS AND NO PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS THERE WILL NOT BE ANY OF THIS BULL SHIT. THERE WILL ONLY BE WHAT IS GOOD FOR THIS “FREE NATION”!

    • Ko

      Bruce
      Right on!
I also think that they should “NOT” receive the big money retirement packages at the taxpayers expense, and after their term is up, should “NOT” be allowed to transfer to another part of the gov’t where they collect another big pension off the backs of the working American citizen. These leeches are supposed to be our “Public Servants” and not the other way around.

      • Nefertari

Ko, you are so correct. There are government workers who get two to three pensions when they retire because they were so greedy and didn’t want to give someone a chance for a job with a pension…they want it all while we who work for private industry gets screwed and have to pay more taxes to make these jerks pensions. And amazingly they live long lives.

      • Mary

Beautifully stated and I cannot agree more. We need to “DRAIN THE SWAMP”, it is beyond urgent!

    • Edi

Unfortunately with term limits all these turkeys will get paid for life and then their wives get something. Term limits should also come with payment limits.

    • SAM

Do you remember ” The Contract With America”? IT was introduced in 1992 by Newt Gingrich, for some reason it was not upheld!!!!! My Congress man was elected on his pledge, he retired in 2014 !!!!!

    • Mathew Molk

Jews are ok in my book too, even Atheists, although when they check out they are in for one hell of a surprise…In fact just about any religion, save one is jake with me….and guess witch one it is? (Hint, it’s the one that will kill you if you don’t convert and submit to sharia law)

I’ don’t have much use for professional politicians either. Term limits and sending all who are here illegally back where they came from will do wonders for our country.

  • jusmyonion

I personally would not have voted for either Bush or Kasich. To me they are nothing more than the same old establishment that has plagued this nation for too long. But, what may have been the deciding factor is that they have proven to be no better than Hillary. They are liars. They took a pledge and lied in the end. They are not to be trusted. Just as Hillary.

    • Kathy

Will never vote for a Bush or Clinton we don’t need dynasties in a he U.S. . Can’t stand Kasich, all of these longtime government bloodsuckers need to get lost someplace. Out of all the people who ran for President Kasich and Bush are just a couple of old crooks.

  • During the Republican debates Kasich was only one who looked presidential. I have sent in letters to the editor in my home town saying there are Republican voters that would vote for a pig if you put a sign of Republican in front of it. Trump is my proof. I am right again.

  • I did

  • Ron Haave SR

The whole bunch of the Bushes are showing their true colors the two past Presidents know better than anyone what Hillary will do to this country I am dory to say that I voted for both of those turncoats they are not any better than Hillary and Bill.

  • Ko

The turn-coats that will not stand behind their very own pledge to support the nominee of the rebub party have really shown their true colors. I would never vote for either of them.
They all seem to be—Me, Me, Me men and lack any truth in their commitment of their spoken pledge to stand with our next “President Donald Trump”.

  • Edi

Unfortunately with term limits these turkeys get paid for life then their wives get something. With term limits there also should be payment limits.

  • Francisco Machado

I seriously doubt Kasich will arouse voter enthusiasm for himself by voting for McCain, particularly since McCain has the popularity of a dog that’s rolled on a road kill skunk. I suspect that announcement (good reason for keeping one’s vote private) will provide useful material for any Republican voting against him – maybe even for a Democrat opponent.

  • Clayton

Well before I get started let me just say this so people wont say I am just talking out my backside. I an a Veteran and in that capacity I was an NCO I was the chief on a 109 self propelled Howitzer. most people in the military know what I am talking about. in civilian life most of the time I ran my own business before I retired. I said all that so I can say that in military life and in a business situation you need people that are honest and when they say something you can depend on them, obviously in this case there are some that are seriously lacking, which tells me they are only looking out for #1 In my opinion they sort of fall in the Hillary category of people. Possibly they take that as a compliment? But I believe for people that love America I mean really love America will have a far different opinion. Now Donald Trump, I know he is not a perfect man, but in my opinion Trump is the most perfect man for this time in our history that will return America back to it’s roots and our rightful place in the world because at this time in history America is the only one capable of fulfilling that spot. So join me and go out and vote for TRUMP I have already done that just waiting now for election day and hoping America is rewarded with the Trumpster!!!

  • Cathy

I liked john kasich because he is a Christian, in my opinion instead of acting haughty
Toward trump he should reach out to him
For prayer and teaching of CHRISTS love and forgiveness.

  • Yvonne Fileccia

THE CORRUPT GOP & THE DEM’s ARE GOING DOWN……………PRESIDENT TRUMP IN 2016………..WE HAVE LEARNED OF THE CORRUPTION IN BOTH PARTIES AND KASICH OR BUSH HAVE NO CAJONES………..THEY ARE NOT MEN, BUT IDIOTS…….BOTH PARTIES ARE FOR THEIR POCKETS AND NOT FOR THE USA NOR FOR THE LEGAL CITIZENS OF THE USA………..THEIR PLAYHOUSE IS COMING DOWN……..

    • Mathew Molk

And the demolition contractor just got to the jobsite last night,,,arriving with all American made equipment.— Hey get us a few 30 yard dumpsters over here!

  • Steve Fye

If Jeb! or Flapjack Kasich were the nominees we would see a double digit lead for the Hildebeast with a sure path for her crooked ass to the whitehouse. If Trump wasn’t running I would not be voting at all and probably never again.

  • Jons_On

I used to like Kasich. Now however I think he is a wining crybaby and also not a man of his word. The guy has become a complete jerk and should resign in shame.

  • Kathy Walker

Bushes and Clintons and the bore Kasich need to go away and quit sucking off the Government.

  • Robert Prinz

If I should die before the 2020 POTUS election & Republican primary I now want to pledge my vote for any Republican except John Kasich, Jeb Bush & any Never Trump commenter & if John Kasich & Jeb Bush change their affiliation to democrat change my registration to democrat so I can vote in their primary against Kasich & Jeb Bush thanks to tombstone voters.

  • I think Kasich and Bush have sealed their fate for any future run for President. The others are really going to have to show support for Trump agendas for the people to forgive them if they decide to run in the future.

  • Faye Bussey

John Kasich should never be voted to another office in the US. He is not a man of his word, and we all know for sure, that he is not President material. Jeb and the Bush Family need to get it though their heads, Jeb lost. You win some, you loose some, he lost. Move on. The people spoke and Donald Trump will be the next President of the U.S. Ohio send John Kasich back to where he came from, find a real man fr Gov. and grow and prosper.

  • Albert Tusin

I was an early supporter of Kasich and thought he might make a good President.
Now, I wouldn’t support him for dogcatcher! A man who reneges on his word is not
worthy to hold ANY political office ever again. He claims to be supporting GOP
Candidates for the House and Senate, but I now believe this is just another smoke
And mirror tactic to drum up support for his Presidential run in 2020. He may be
fooling himself, but voters will not forgive OR forget his betrayal.

  • Mike Johnson

Hey for those of you who dislike “globalists” or globalism. How do you like your large flatscreen 4K televisions? How you you like all the appliances, tools, gadgets and other stuff you buy at Walmart? Where do think it is made so it can me sold here in the USA at such a low price? It’s made in Asian countries like China. Globalism is here to stay and it does improve our lives. Instead of complaining at the wrong people you can help yourselves by investing in yourself and learning skills that are needed today like anything to do with computers, electronics or other fields that didn’t exist twenty five years ago. Most areas have community colleges that offer a low cost way to learn these skills. The world isn’t going to change for you so if you want a better life for you and your family, invest in yourself and demand that your elected officials support this type of job training. Of course you’ll have to go to class and study.

  • Joseph C. Moore, USN Ret.

Thjere are some constitutional Republicans who take their oath of office seriously and then there are the RINO bast**** who merely mouth the oath with no conviction of fealty at all. Those seditious mongrels should be unceremoniously booted from office for their collusion with the socialist/Marxist NWO left.

  • I voted for Kasich—–NEVER AGAIN! I’m independent and this is the first time I’ve ever voted a straight ticket—-republican and PROUD of it! The silent majority will decide this election and hopefully we will get some honesty in politics.

  • Nefertari

The Bush family are only for themselves……example, after helping Kuwait in Desert Storm, Kuwait wanted Papa Bush to go there and receive a hero’s welcome…he delayed it because any gift he got would become property of the US government…so he waited until he got out of office and then went to Kuwait to collect all the goodies so he could keep them because he was no longer in office. Told all my friends about this while the old man was still in office and they didn’t believe me. Living proof that the Bush family is like the Clintons…they don’t give a s**t about us.

    • Mary

      Amen

  • Jeff

John Kasich is a Traitor and Cry Baby! How the hell did Ohio ever elect such a BUFFOON for governor?

    • Mathew Molk

It was over Ted Strickland,,,,who is almost as band as Obama,,,,

The pisser is Kasich actually did a pretty good job as governor, but I wouldn’t want to see him as a sewer inspector now. Unlike him, I have principals. Don’t care how good of a governor he is. I will never vote for him again.

  • I’m amazed, stunned, that ANYONE can choose to put another Clinton in our White House! How many FBI criminal investigations do American voters need to realize she’s not fit for the Oval Office? Donald Trump has clearly risen to the occasion. My Fellow Americans, wake up; vote Trump.

    • AL

      AMEN, AL

  • Nadine Cavanaugh

Nasty Nadine: When you can’t keep your word to support a person who has won you are no longer a honesty person. I was taught if you promised to do something and did not follow thru you would be called a liar. It seems we have quite a few of those around anymore. Never in my 94 years have I ever seen such stuff going on. Why don’t they realize that we have to turn around or American as we have came to know it is going down down. We must pick up the pieces and move on NOW so help me GOD. Mr Trump is going to need all the help we all can give him to accomplish it. Bring back the school to be run by the Cities and not the US. Gov. Have any of you looked at the Common Core Math?? Terrible.

  •  GOOGLE THE NEW CLINTON CHRONICLES 2015 AND RESEND TO ALL YOU CAN AND ASK THEM TO DO THE SAME.

COULD THIS BE WHY SHE WANTS OPEN BORDERS?  IS SHE ON DOPE?

ALL GOOGLE HILLIARY’S TOP AIDE FOR 20 YEARS (HUMA ABIDEN TERRIOST)

COULD THEY BOTH BE SPY’S FOR TERROIST?  AFTER ALL, HILLIARY HAS TAKEN MILLIONS FROM THEM.

  • Robert E Baker

I wonder if it is possible a Trump win could change the present political scene? Presently the actions are for themselves with the people in the background, or ignored. Trump being a entrepreneurial individual enjoying the American dream. Criticized for not knowing politics is a plus too me. A defeat for the corrupt, greedy, self-serving scoundrels, monopolizing the stage, should realize the people are sick and tired of government as it is now. It is high time we call their bluff with the message we are still a Christian nation bent on upholding the Constitution and the plan our forefathers set forth under the Hand of Almighty God. Amen

  • joblo

The elder Bush is a friend to Bill Clinton; what do you expect? Not to mention, any man who served as V
P to the great President Reagan and did learn a darn thing, something is very wrong with that man.

  • OH YES IT DID, IT HELPED HILLIARY CLINTON.

IF YOU ARE FOR THIS, YOU ARE TRYING TO DESTROY MY COUNTRY.

  • I can’t express in words how disgusted I am with this so called republican party. As for support and keeping their promises, none of them did. They are all a bunch of sniveling low life, yellow bellied, lower than snake shit cry babies this country has ever seen. They don’t have the balls or the spine to call out Obama because he black, they won’t have the balls or spines to call out Hillary either. Rotten scum shit freeloaders, I will never vote republican again until each and everyone of you assholes are out of office. “Trump 2016” you losers F’ED UP!!!!

  • James Robertson

    We are liberated!

  • Mr. Bill

Kasich could NOT vote for Trump! Why, because he “Sold his Soul” to Mr. George Soros for over $600,000, just like the FBI director who’s wife got about the same amount. Do you think the Mafia is stupid? They didn’t give the money to him, but his wife. Now Kasich, that was stupid. Talk about corruption, it is rampant! We gave New Orleans hundreds of millions to improve the dikes and levies. So what happened to the money, they “Blew it” on expensive trips, etc. Now I am NOT saying the Repubs are “Snow White”, but look at Detroit, L.A. Chicago, Philly, and other cities that have been under democrap control for decades. Just cleaned up the Dems should scare any other corrupt politicians to get out or go straight?
