GOP Officials Move to Block Trump’s New Hampshire Delegates from Serving on Key Posts

GOP officials are planning to block Trump’s delegates in New Hampshire from holding key posts in the national convention in July. Trump won the state in a landslide victory nearly three months ago with 35% of the vote. In comparison, Trump doubled his nearest opponent in the state.

The slots would be assigned to delegates of Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Trump’s campaign is calling the move “shameful” and insinuated that the GOP is “playing games.” Potential committee assignments would be denied to Trump delegates, including Stephan Stepanek and Corey Lewandowski.

Convention committee assignments are typically mundane and have their affairs ignored. This year’s election is likely to be contested, which puts the focus more on committee assignments that may provide a small edge to candidates.

The slate of candidates was proposed by the New Hampshire Republican Party on Saturday. The party sent the assignments to the media.

The state’s delegates need to vote on the proposed candidates and were given just 48 hours to decide on the matter. Ballots need to be cast no later than noon Monday to be counted. Delegates can vote for candidates on the slate or write in names of other delegates they feel would better fit the role.
