Marco Rubio, former Republican presidential candidate, explained his reasoning for supporting Trump in the upcoming election. While he has reservations about Trump’s policies and the way he conducts his campaign, the senator said he will support the Republican nominee over Clinton in November because he signed a loyalty pledge.
Rubio elaborated, stating that while he has policy differences with Trump, his only other option is to vote for Hillary Clinton or abstain from voting altogether, both of which he says are supportive of Clinton.
“I have even more policy differences with her,” he said during an interview on NBC’s “Today.” “I’m even more scared about her being in control of the U.S. government,” he added.
Rubio said his support will only go as far as standing by his pledge to support the nominee. He added that the policy differences and reservations he has about Trump remain the same.
“I clearly didn’t want us to be in the position we are in today,” Rubio said.
Rubio wasn’t the only candidate to sign a pledge to support the nominee in November, but he appears to be one of the few that will stand by that commitment. Senator Lindsey Graham and Governor Jeb Bush have both stated that they will not be voting for Trump in November.
