Fox News Invites Sanders to debate in California; Sanders Accepts

Fox News has invited Bernie Sanders to the Democratic debate in California. The Vermont Senator accepted the invitation on Wednesday. “Both campaigns have been invited by Fox News to a debate,” stated Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver.

“We have told the network we would accept with the understanding that we can reach a mutual agreement on moderators, format and other details,” states Weaver.

Fox News has been lobbying to hold a Democratic debate for months and have lobbied the DNC publically on the matter. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders last debated on Fox News with host Bret Baier in March. The two candidates participated in back-to-back town hall debates.

The Washington Post reported the debate invitation on Tuesday when a formal letter was sent to both candidates.

Fox News has included a variety of date options excluding Friday and Saturday debates which are excluded due to terms with the Democratic National Committee. Fox News has yet to hear back from the Clinton campaign on whether or not the frontrunner will attend the debate. The date of the debate and time will remain pending until both campaigns have agreed to participate in the debate.

Clinton and Sanders both agreed in February to extend the number of debates and schedule four more debates. Three of the four debates have been held, with California being the last debate among Clinton and Sanders.
