Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leader, said on Sunday that she received “obscene and sick” text messages and phone calls after a DCCC hack leaked the email addresses and phone numbers of House Democrats. A Russia-linked hacker has taken credit for the incident.
Pelosi sent a letter to her colleagues warning them to take extra precautions. The House Democrat Leader also stated that she was changing her phone number. The hacker, who goes by the name Guccifer 2.0, posted Pelosi’s personal cell phone numbers as part of the leak.
The leaked information allegedly came from the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee). The DNC (Democratic National Committee) was also the target of a cyber attack, which was made public in July.
“I was in the air flying from Florida to California when the news broke. Upon landing, I have received scores of mostly obscene and sick calls, voicemails and text messages,” Pelosi said in a note to her colleagues. She has warned other House Democrats to keep incoming text messages and phone calls from family members and children.
House chief information security officer John Ramsey has sent out a memo to lawmakers urging them to change their passwords for all accounts and consider changing their email address.
