Donald Trump’s stance on immigration may be shifting, according to a senior aide to Trump. The billionaire built his campaign on the back of a tough stance against immigration. The nominee declared he would build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and he promised to mass deport illegal immigrants.
The campaign’s senior aide stated that Trump’s plan to deport 11 million people is under review.
The plan was deemed to be too costly to carry out by critics. Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s new campaign manager, stated on CNN that Trump will be “fair and humane” in his stance on deportation.
“What he supports is to make sure we enforce the law,” stated Conway.
Conway was pressed on the matter on Sunday by CNN, and was asked if he would use a deportation force. Conway stated, “To be determined.”
The reports were confirmed on CBS’s “Face the Nation” when Jeff Sessions, Republican Senator and close ally to Trump, said that Trump is still working on how to carry out his deportation plan. The Republican nominee called for a “temporary” and “complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the country. The Republican later recanted and stated the temporary ban would only apply to Muslims that are coming from areas where there is a history of terrorism.
