A Trump supporter at a rally in Asheville, North Carolina reportedly grabbed a protester by the neck and appears to have hit the man in the face, CNN reports.
Eight protesters were shouting in the middle of the rally when one protestor exchanged words with a supporter in the crowd. The supporter grabbed the protestor by the neck and swung at him. It is still unclear whether the protestor dodged the hit.
Law enforcement officials who were stationed at the rally stated that they were not involved in the incident. The Trump supporter, who remains unidentified, was allowed to remain at the rally and was not arrested.
The incident came after Trump bashed Clinton for calling his supporters “deplorables.” Trump has accused the Democratic nominee of running a “hate-filled” campaign.
The Republican candidate brought a group of supporters on stage just moments before the incident, calling them hard-working citizens.
The Trump supporter who grabbed the male protestor also attempted to grab a female protester, who was being escorted out of the arena.
One man in the crowd shouted, “Get out!” and motioned for a woman in a hijab to leave as the protesters were being escorted out of the building.
The incident is not the first of its kind. In March, a supporter in Fayetteville, North Carolina was charged with assault after punching a protester as he was being escorted out by police.
