The Donald J. Trump foundation is under investigation, according to an announcement made by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The probe into the foundation is to ensure that Trump’s foundation has been following state laws for nonprofit organizations.
The Attorney General supports Hillary Clinton and has sued Trump in the past.
Schneiderman sought $40 million from Trump for his involvement in the fraudulent Trump University. Students of the University stated that the school made empty promises and didn’t offer the mentorship with Trump as promised.
Reuters reported Schneiderman as saying, “My interest in this issue really is in my capacity as regulator of nonprofits in New York state. And we have been concerned that the Trump Foundation may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view.”
The reason for the probe into the foundation has not been stated as of yet.
The Trump campaign dismissed the claims and stated that Schneiderman has overlooked the wrongdoings of the Clinton Foundation for years.
Clinton’s Foundation has come under question, too, in recent weeks. The foundation has been accused of running a pay-to-play operation that allows big donors to receive favors and government contracts in the future for their donations. The foundation has also received money from many dictators.
