Trump: Using Other People’s Money Takes the Risk

Republican nominee Donald Trump bragged on Tuesday about using “other people’s money” in business. The comment came just hours after a report surfaced that alleged his charity used over $250,000 to settle lawsuits on behalf of his for-profit business.

Trump spoke of “OPM” (other people’s money) when speaking of building safe zones in Syria that are financed by Gulf states.

“It’s called OPM,” he said. “I do it all the time in business. It’s called other people’s money. There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money because it takes the risk,” he added.

The comments from Trump came after a report from the Washington Post that showed Trump used his charity’s funds to settle lawsuits. The Republican nominee has made few contributions to his own foundation, and relies largely on donations from other donors.

While Trump was not alluding to this report in his comments, he has touted the benefits of using OPM in the past, and has stated that he would use this tactic to the country’s benefit as well.

Trump has said he will build a wall between Mexico and the U.S. if he is elected, claiming Mexico will pay for the wall.

The Republican nominee has also called for other countries to pay more for the U.S. military to maintain its bases.
