Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday evening in New York. The meeting came hours after Republican nominee Donald Trump met with the PM for 90 minutes at Trump Tower.
Clinton’s meeting with Netanyahu took place behind closed doors at the W Hotel. The two had met several times in the past during Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.
The Democratic nominee and the Israeli PM discussed the defense Memorandum of Understanding that was recently signed between the U.S. and Israel. Syria’s civil war and the Iran nuclear deal were other topics of discussion. Her meeting was only slightly shorter than his talk with Donald Trump.
The meetings come just one day before the first scheduled presidential debate.
Trump’s campaign released a readout of the meeting, which highlights the topics of discussion. Trump and the Israeli PM discussed the relationship between the U.S. and Israel and its “unbreakable bond.” The two also discussed security, military assistance and stability in the region.
Trump also said that as president, the U.S. would finally accept the Congressional mandate that recognizes “Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the State of Israel.”
Netanyahu is in New York for the UN General Assembly meeting.
