Trump: Google Was Suppressing Bad News About Clinton

Donald Trump on Wednesday tried to renew a long-debunked conspiracy theory that Google’s search engine was suppressing negative headlines about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, CNN reports.

While Trump had no sources to back his claim, a recent report of the conspiracy theory came from the Russian-owned Sputnik News.

Trump said in a speech on Wednesday, “Google search engine was suppressing the bad news about Hillary Clinton. How about that?” The Republican nominee said the new post-debate poll has his campaign leading Clinton by two points.

Trump was referring to the discredited viral conspiracy that Google was hiding negative autocomplete results about Hillary Clinton.

Google told The Washington Times in June, “Google Autocomplete does not favor any candidate or cause. Claims to the contrary simply misunderstand how Autocomplete works.”

The search engine giant has stated that its algorithm will not show predicted queries that are disparaging or offensive “when displayed in conjunction with a person’s name.”

Since the presidential debate on Monday, Trump has attached moderator Lester Holt as being biased and claimed his microphone was defective.

The majority of Trump’s speech on Wednesday revolved around Clinton’s financial ties, particularly during her tenure as Secretary of State. Trump laid out these ties at an earlier rally in Iowa, the Washington Examiner reported.
