Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence and Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine faced-off in the vice presidential debate on Tuesday. Kaine accused Pence of defending Trump’s insult-driven campaign.
The accusation caused Pence to fire back, stating that Clinton’s campaign would know about an insult-driven campaign.
Pence later stated, “I was listening to an avalanche of insults coming out of Senator Kaine a minute ago.” Kaine responded by stating “these were Donald’s.” The moderator interjected at this point to remind Kaine that it was Pence’s time to talk.
Trump, at the time of the debate, was found tweeting in support of Pence, stating, “@mike_pence is doing a great job – so far, no contest!”
Pence stated, “He is not a polished politician like you and Hillary Clinton.” Kaine responded, “When Donald Trump says women should be punished or Mexicans are rapists and criminals, or John McCain is not a hero, he is showing you who he is.”
Pence quickly interjected, stating, “Senator, you’ve whipped out that Mexican thing again.”
Trump attacked Mexico in July 2015, stating, “They’re sending people [to the US] that have lots of problems. They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists.”
Pence was far more polished in his first debate than Trump.
