Obama: If I Had Run Again, I Would Have Won

In an interview with his former chief strategist David Axelrod, President Obama said he was confident that he could have won the 2016 election if he’d had the chance.

“I am confident in this vision because I’m confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it,” Obama said on Axelrod’s podcast. “I know that in conversations that I’ve had with people around the country, even some people who disagreed with me, they would say the vision – the direction that you point towards – is the right one.”

What does that mean? What’s he talking about? How can you simultaneously disagree with him and think he’s got the right vision, unless you’re some kind of moron?

Discussing his “hope and change” slogan from the 2008 campaign, Obama said it was just as viable today as it was then.

“Obviously in the wake of the election and Trump winning, a lot of people have suggested that, somehow, it really was a fantasy,” he said. “What I would argue is, is that the culture actually did shift, that the majority does buy into the notion of a one America that is tolerant and diverse and open and full of energy and dynamism. And the problem is, it doesn’t always manifest itself in politics, right?”

You can say what you want about Trump’s boastfulness, but there’s always an underlying current of humor to his arrogance. It doesn’t always come through in media soundbites, but anyone who has been to his rallies can tell you that there is a deep well of humility underneath all of the outrageous bragging.

Obama’s arrogance is much more subtle, but it’s also much more real. You listen to this guy talk and you start to understand what a real narcissist sounds like. If his agenda didn’t win, it just means the messenger didn’t do a good job. And if the election of Trump really does reflect the culture, then it means America is all of these horrible things and that can’t be true so it’s just a big fat mystery. It’s not just that he thinks his opinions are right, it’s that he thinks they are facts.

It is a fact, though, that he will not be president for a third term.

It is our opinion that this is a good thing for the United States of America.
