Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer held a press conference on Sunday to condemn President Trump’s executive actions on immigration. Schumer, the top-ranking Democrat in the country, said his party was considering legislation that would overturn Trump’s controversial moves.
“If we get a few more Republicans, I think we might be able to pass legislation to overturn it,” Schumer said. “It will be up to getting more Republicans.”
Schumer said that a few Republicans, including Senators Ben Sasse and John McCain, had already criticized Trump publicly for the order, which barred immigration from a number of Middle Eastern countries.
“These orders go against what America has always been about. The orders make us less humanitarian, less safe, less American,” Schumer said. “We’re demanding the president reverse these executive orders that go against what we are, everything we have always stood for.”
Schumer, who put on a fine performance complete with some crocodile tears, said Democrats were busy working on a bill that would put the orders on ice.
“Senate Democrats are gonna introduce legislation to overturn this and move it as quickly as we can,” Schumer said. “I, as your senator from New York, will claw, scrap and fight with every fiber of my being until these orders are overturned.”
On Monday, President Trump included Schumer in a pair of tweets defending the order and the protests that resulted.
“Only 109 people out of 325,000 were detained and held for questioning,” the president wrote. “Big problems at airports were caused by Delta computer outage, protesters, and the tears of Senator Schumer. Secretary Kelly said that all is going well with very few problems. MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!”
Words can’t express how wonderful it is to have a Republican president who isn’t even slightly afraid of Democrat Party pushback, whether it comes from paid protesters, the media, or Capitol Hill. President Trump is going to put his agenda into action no matter what the left thinks about it, and for that we are eternally grateful. This is why we elected him – because we knew we had finally found someone with the courage of his convictions.
When it comes to Washington politicians, that’s a rare find indeed. But that’s what it’s going to take to steer the United States away from the looming destruction in time.
