Two hundred years ago, in the days of American slavery, blacks were not permitted to pursue education. For some reason, this historical injustice now requires modern colleges to provide black students with free tuition and free housing.
That’s what the Associated Students of Madison believe, anyway. The University of Wisconsin student government passed a resolution last Wednesday calling on the school to provide black students with a free ride due to the sins of our forefathers. According to the students, there are too many suburban whites taking up space at the university, and the blame for that goes to the school for relying on SAT scores. Those scores keep “white supremacy” alive by unfairly restricting opportunities for the poor.
The Associated Students acknowledged that the University of Wisconsin has talked the talk when it comes to diversity, but they said it was now time for school officials to walk the walk.
“The university’s rhetoric suggests that it is committed to diversity and inclusion, so this legislation compels the university to move towards action — which is imperative,” said the resolution’s author, Tyriek Mack. “If no one challenges the university’s empty promises, then the racial composition will remain stagnant.”
From the Chicago Tribune:
The resolution demands free access to the university for all black people, including former inmates. That means free tuition, free housing and no fees, Mack said. That would save a black resident undergraduate student about $20,000 a year.
The resolution goes on to call for the university to use 10 percent of donations to bolster financial aid and study the feasibility of test-optional and geographically weighted admissions.
First of all, we can guaran-damn-tee that any black high school student with half-decent grades can qualify for loans and scholarships. As for black students who aren’t making the grade, why would they think college is a viable option? What, they’re just going to waste the donors’ money so they can flunk out in the first semester?
It’s hard to even talk reasonably about this nonsense without sounding like a racist, but we take comfort in knowing that the vast majority of black Americans see this for the leftist BS that it is.
Frankly, though, if this is the kind of educational theory being espoused at the university, tuition should be free. That would just about match its worth.
