If rapper Snoop Dogg wanted an easy path back into the spotlight, he got just what he aimed for with his recent video, “Lavender.” In the music video, the rapper faces off with a clown named “Ronald Klump” – a thinly-veiled reference to the president of the United States.
At one point in the spot, Snoop Dogg aims a gun at the clown’s head and pulls the trigger. But even though the gun in the video harmlessly ejects a “BANG” flag instead of a bullet, the rapper has been criticized harshly for simulating an assassination for the sake of publicity.
President Trump himself weighed in on Wednesday morning. “Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama?” he asked on Twitter. “Jail time!”
According to TheWrap, an entertainment site, the Secret Service is “aware of” the video, though they did not confirm or deny whether they were launching an investigation into the rap star.
President Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, told TMZ that Snoop Dogg should be ashamed of himself. “It’s totally disgraceful, Snoop owes the president an apology,” Cohen said. “There’s absolutely nothing funny about an assassination attempt on a president.”
And one-time Trump rival (and hip-hop fan) Sen. Marco Rubio told TMZ that Snoop had crossed the line.
“Snoop shouldn’t have done that,” Rubio said. “You know, we’ve had presidents assassinated before in this country, so anything like that is really something that you should be very careful about. The wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you can have a real problem. So I’m not sure what Snoop was thinking, he should think about that a little bit.”
In an interview with Billboard, Snoop defended the video and argued that too many musicians in the industry were ignoring the dangers posed by the Trump administration.
“I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this f–king clown as president,” he said. “And the s–t that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being.”
As for us, we wholeheartedly encourage liberal stars to cross the line over and over again. Every time they do, it wakes a few more Americans up to the lunacy of the left. By the time President Trump leaves office, no one of sound mind will want anything to do with Democrats or their supporters.
