Gun Control Group Plots $25M Fight Against Concealed Carry

Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun control group founded by former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, is planning to spend more than $25 million in the 2018 election. In their sights: A Republican push for concealed carry reciprocity laws that would allow a licensed gun carrier in one state travel to another, more restrictive state without fearing arrest and prosecution.

“This is a line in the sand on this issue, there’s no question about it. The NRA wants to normalize carrying guns in public. It’s not where the American public is,” Everytown president John Feinblatt told Politico. “We’re putting people on notice today that we’re watching…and that we expect to hold people accountable.”

According to Politico, Everytown will spend their money hiring new staff, promoting new strategies, and putting pressure on both national and local politicians in an attempt to keep national gun reciprocity laws from being passed in Washington. The site reports that Everytown will work with other gun control groups like Americans for Responsible Solutions to fight reciprocity laws.

“It’s also pushing back on efforts to deregulate silencers and expand guns in schools,” Politico reports.

The gun control frenzy is about to begin again in earnest; the 2016 election spoke loudly and clearly, but that only inspires these liberals to spend more money. After all, that’s the end-all-be-all of the Democratic Party playbook: Spend, spend, spend. It may be a billionaire’s money they’re spending now, but it’s intended to curb freedoms and grow the government. Meaning: Eventually, it always comes back to the taxpayer.

The election of Donald Trump was a major setback for the left, but they aren’t going anywhere. They see a future where the dreams of Barack Obama – mass gun confiscation among them – can be realized. Maybe not within the next couple of years…maybe not even the next decade…but eventually. They know it’s just a matter of weakening laws here and there, slowly but surely moving the window of acceptability. They know that given enough space, they can convince Americans that the Second Amendment doesn’t really say what it says. Or, if it does, that we have the freedom to ignore it for the good of public safety.

Fighting this battle will take more than an equivalent amount of spending; it means matching these gun grabbers on every front, including messaging. We have the truth on our side, but the truth isn’t going to be enough. We have to make sure people hear that truth and make sure they aren’t blinded by the slick propaganda of the elitist liberal establishment.
