Keenanga-Yahahtta Taylor, an associate professor at Princeton University, used her commencement speech at Hampshire College to take one outrageous shot after another at President Donald Trump. Taylor, who is apparently an expert in the invaluable field of African-American studies, told the graduating class that things were even worse than they may have noticed.
“The president of the United States, the most powerful politician in the world, is a racist, sexist megalomaniac,” said Taylor. “It’s not a benign observation, but has meant tragic consequences for many people in our country — from terror-inducing raids in the communities of undocumented immigrants to his disparaging of refugees in search of freedom and respite.”
Hmm, racist megalomaniac? Is she talking about Trump, or does she still think Obama is in office?
As for the rest, we’re numb to seeing liberals exaggerate the tales of “terror” that federal immigration authorities strike in the hearts of the illegal immigrant communities they “raid,” but this is beyond the pale. Is it also “terror-inducing” when cops raid a drug den? And when it comes to refugees, we really are not in the mood after what happened in Manchester last week.
Later in the speech, Taylor admitted that the court decisions blocking President Trump’s immigration bans were motivated not by the law, but by liberal outrage.
“When Trump’s first illegal Muslim travel ban was attempted, thousands of ordinary people flooded the airports around this country,” she said. “And because of those protests, and the defiance they represented, that ban was stopped — not once, but twice. It is not enough just to be outraged. Injustice has to actually be defied.”
In other words, it’s not enough to just speak out against the Trump administration’s policies; liberals need to put so much pressure on the court system that judges decide cases based on public opinion rather than the letter of the law? Fantastic. What could go wrong? Taylor, like most liberals, doesn’t seem to understand that we have laws for a reason. When you just shrug and say, “Oh, well, it’s injustice,” you forget that YOUR idea of injustice is someone else’s idea of justice.
Illegal immigrants are BREAKING THE LAW. Refugees from Islamic countries DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to come to the U.S. Judges MUST render decisions based on the law, not on their political opinions.
Taylor’s right that our country has been subject to “tragic consequences” under this president; she’s just wrong about what they’ve been.
