It was brushed under the rug by the mainstream media, but some of the most damning testimony that came out of the mouth of James Comey had nothing at all to do with Donald Trump. Instead, it demonstrated that if there was anyone who deserved to be investigated for obstruction of justice, it was former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. No, Lynch didn’t say “hi” to the Russian ambassador at a Republican event last summer (GASP! SHRIEK!), but she did appear to preside over the Hillary Clinton email investigation with more than a little bit of interest in seeing the 2016 Democratic Party candidate exonerated of all charges.
In Comey’s Senate testimony, he said that he was disturbed on three different occasions by the actions and behavior of Lynch. One of those incidents he couldn’t discuss due to classification reasons, but he was more than happy to expound on the other two, both of which had previously been reported publicly. The first was an incident in early 2016 when Lynch advised him to use the word “matter” instead of “investigation” when talking to the press about the Hillary Clinton case. Comey noted at the time that this jibed uncomfortably well with the Clinton campaign talking points.
The second, of course, was Lynch’s bizarre, still-not-satisfactorily explained secret meeting with Bill Clinton on an airline tarmac in Arizona. Lynch and Slick Willie claim that there was nothing to the impromptu meeting. That they just talked about their grandkids and the weather and they certainly did not discuss the possibility of Bill’s wife going to prison for illegally mishandling classified material. Of COURSE they didn’t. We all believe that? Right?
Well, Comey apparently had a tough time swallowing it. He thought that these incidents conspired to cast doubt on the Justice Department’s impartiality. And, knowing that he was about to recommend that Hillary be let off the hook, he didn’t want Lynch’s obvious biases casting a shadow on his perfect record of FBI Boy Scoutism. So he took to the podium a few days later and delivered the speech heard ‘round the world. The one where Hillary broke several laws with her “gross carelessness,” but would, for some reason, not face any punishment for doing so.
Now, some Senate Republicans want to know more about how Lynch handled the case. Did she, in fact, have her thumb on the scales of justice the whole time?
The Judiciary Committee wants to leave the Russia investigation to the Intelligence Committee and turn their focus to Lynch’s behavior.
Sen. John Cornyn said, “Frankly, a lot of what Hillary Clinton was exposed to by Director Comey’s misconduct and the way he handled that was apparently in response to his lack of confidence in the attorney general. I think there is a lot we could learn from that.”
You can bet that Lynch doesn’t want to go anywhere near a Senate hearing. There’s too much about that Hillary investigation that can’t be explained. Too much that they were hoping they could just sweep under the rug once their girl became president. Except, whoops, it didn’t happen that way.
Now it’s time for us to find out the truth.
