NFL Anthem Drama: Pence Walks Out and the Cowboys Stand Up

Vice President Mike Pence got up and walked out of Sunday’s NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers when more than 20 of the San Francisco players knelt during the national anthem. In tweets after the game, both Pence and President Trump made their feelings on the protesting players clear.

“I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country,” Trump said. “I am proud of him and @secondLady Karen.”

Pence himself said, “@POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.”

The walkout drew widespread criticism from the leftist media and the protesting players, of course. 49ers safety Eric Reid accused the vice president of using the game as a publicity stunt.

“First of all, does anybody know the last time he went to a football game?” Reid asked on Twitter. “With that being said, he tweeted out a three-year old photo from the Colts game. With the information I have, the last time he went to a Colts game was three years ago, so this looks like a PR stunt to me.

“He knew our team has had the most players protest,” Reid continued. “He knew we were probably going to do it again. And so this is what systemic oppression looks like — a man with power comes to the game, tweets a couple things out and leaves the game with an attempt to thwart our efforts. Again, based on the information I have, that’s the assumption that I made.”

Really? If THIS is what “systemic oppression looks like,” then can we all move on from this conversation? Because if THAT is all this is about – a vice president walking out because he doesn’t like to see the flag disrespected – then this movement is even sillier and more trivial than we thought. Reid was actually making some decent points about it being a PR stunt, but he shredded his credibility with that comment. Although if you’ve ever gotten a close look at what groups like Black Lives Matter “demand” from universities and politicians, then you’ll notice that Reid’s definition of “systemic oppression” is not the most ridiculous thing these idiots believe.

So we won’t expect to see cogent arguments from the players who kneel for the national anthem, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has restored our faith in the fact that there remains at least SOME sanity in the NFL. In comments on Sunday, Jones said he would not tolerate acts of shameful disrespect from his players.

“If there is anything that is disrespectful to the flag then we will not play,” he told reporters. “If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period. Period. We’re going to respect the flag. And we have […] Under no circumstances will the Dallas Cowboys – I don’t care what happens – under no circumstances as an organization or as coaches and players not support and stand and recognize and honor the flag.”

Mic. Drop.

We’d love to see more owners join Jones in this patriotic stand for America. Let’s see if any of them have the guts to do it.
