Hillary: Women Will Be Most Harmed By Climate Change (Of Course)

Georgetown University this week held the first annual (get ready) Hillary Rodham Clinton awards ceremony, hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security. Naturally, the woman for whom the event was named was invited as the guest of honor. In her speech, Clinton said that she believed that climate change would be hardest on women…because you know, that’s the kind of thing you say when you need an easy applause line at a place like this.

But indeed, the former Democratic Party nominee has apparently thought this through, telling the crowd that women would “bear the brunt of looking for the food, looking for the firewood, looking for the place to migrate to,” and so forth. It is apparently Clinton’s belief that a two-degree temperature shift over the next hundred years (if it even happens) will bring humanity back to the days of yore, when we were little more than scarcely-evolved apes, scratching around in the sand and waiting for the next buffalo to wander out of the tall grass.

“When all of the grass is finally gone as the desertification moves south and you have to keep moving your livestock or your crops are no longer growing,” she said, women will be forced to step up and save their men from certain starvation.

We’re not sure if she was seriously predicting the future or merely sketching out her dystopian fantasy novel, but damn, we have yet another reason to be glad she’s not president. Was she THIS loony on the campaign trail, or did losing to Trump knock a few of her screws loose?

What’s funny is that later in the show, when asked how she would respond to the “backlash” against feminism, Clinton said that men were only antagonistic to the movement because they were “frightened” by strong women.

“I see it as a reaction that is driven by lots of different motives, some of them having to do with people feeling insecure, frightened, disillusioned, discouraged, or whatever emotion you want,” she said. “When people are insecure and anxious they often defend against their own feelings by rejecting others.”

Well, maybe. Maybe.

But maybe it’s because a lot of the stuff coming out of the so-called feminist movement is just as silly and absurd as the idea that women will soon be marching across the desert sands, leading their families to grassy oases in a post-climate change world. Maybe there’s a backlash because there not everyone buys into every idiotic thing, just because that thing happens to be said by a woman. Maybe there’s a backlash because people are sick to death of identity politics and see it for what it is: A way to divide us and turn us against each other for political advantage.

Or hey, maybe the heat’s just getting to us…
