Robert Mueller’s politically-motivated investigation is so obscenely unhinged from any basis in evidence or law that it is beginning to alarm even those Americans predisposed to cheering for the Democrats. Among those people are lawyers like Alan Dershowitz, who has been forced to defend President Trump at every turn – not because he believes in the Trump agenda by any means, but because he is disgusted by the extra-constitutional efforts to limit the president’s power and remove him from office. And now they include Mark Penn, a pollster who has spent his entire career shilling for the CLINTONS!
Folks, if you’ve lost the Clinton acolytes, you have really run off the reservation.
Penn has worked for both President Bill Clinton and his wife at various points over the last two decades, but even he has seen enough of this witch hunt. In an op-ed for The Hill on Monday, Penn warned that if Mueller’s investigation is not stopped soon, it could have damning ramifications for our entire system of democracy.
“Flush with 16 prosecutors, including a former lawyer for the Clinton Foundation, and an undisclosed budget, the Mueller investigation has been a scorched-earth effort to investigate the entirety of the Trump campaign, Trump business dealings, the entire administration and now, if it was not Russia, maybe it’s some other country,” Penn wrote. “The president’s earlier legal team was naive in believing that, when Mueller found nothing, he would just end it. Instead, the less investigators found, the more determined and expansive they became. This president and his team now are on a better road to put appropriate limits on all this.”
Penn said the time was ripe for the president to bring the Mueller inquiry to a decisive close.
“This process must now be stopped, preferably long before a vote in the Senate,” he wrote. “Rather than a fair, limited and impartial investigation, the Mueller investigation became a partisan, open-ended inquisition that, by its precedent, is a threat to all those who ever want to participate in a national campaign or an administration again.”
Observers like Penn are not cheering for Donald Trump. Hell, you probably couldn’t find three areas of policy that Trump and Penn would agree on. They are speaking out not because they want to save this transformational figure in American politics but because they understand what a dangerous road it is that we’re on – where a political party can use conspiracy theories and corrupt law enforcement strategies to nullify an election. That it’s the Democratic Party is not important, in Penn’s mind. That just happens to be what it is. What’s important is that we preserve the rule of law. What’s important is that we make our political decisions at the ballot box – not at the Justice Department.
