According to a new CNN documentary about the way Hollywood is crafting new shows to meet the ideological challenges presented by the Trump administration, Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a story written to reflect the realities of the oppressive Christian theocracy all Americans are facing right now.
CNN and the show’s producers did not linger on the obvious counterpoint; the novel upon which “The Handmaid’s Tale” is based was published in the 1980s and the show itself was ordered into production before Trump even won the Republican nomination.
Well, that and the fact that America under Trump bears absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the dystopian future presented by the show.
But, you know, other than that…
On CNN, though, American women are only a few steps away from being entrapped under a theocratic regime that will take away all of their rights, turn them into sex slaves, and strip them of their identities.
Showrunner Bruce Miller said that he sees “parallels between his show and the U.S. under President Trump.”
“I would be very happy if my show became irrelevant as quickly as possible,” he said. “Our writers’ room is very news-aware. Trump pushing on all these hot-button issues brings them to the fore, and they become conversations in the writers’ room. We don’t do anything on the show that isn’t happening to women somewhere in the world.”
That may or may not be the case, but you’ll notice that even Miller had the presence of mind to say “the world” and not “the United States.”
But let’s talk about what’s happening to women in America that might “parallel” the world of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Certainly, no women are being forced to bear children for the rich and powerful, so we can throw, you know, the show’s ENTIRE FRIGGIN PREMISE out the window, but let’s leave them some room for hyperbole and take them on good faith…however unwise that it to do with Hollywood, CNN, and the feminist left.
Abortions? They remain as accessible today as they were under Obama.
Birth control? Still just as available today as it ever was.
Women’s constitutional rights? They are just as protected today as they ever were.
What are we trying to say? That there has BEEN NO CHANGE for women in America under Trump. Not ONE CHANGE. It’s all made-up. It’s a fiction. The idea that women are being specially oppressed – or are on the verge of being oppressed – under this administration is a laughable joke. It is pure feminist hysteria and nothing more.
You, being a sensible reader, already knew that.
But damn, we really wonder how many braindead CNN viewers buy into this crap.
