Let’s be real here: We have no doubt whatsoever that Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and all the rest of the Democrats sitting on top of the party leadership would LOVE to see President Trump impeached for any reason they can think of, regardless of whether or not it makes any sense. Furthermore, we’re quite certain that if Democrats had control of both the House and the Senate, they would find a way to make this national tragedy unfold. Hell, if they could go back in time and nullify the results of the 2016 election, they would just as soon do that.
The reason Democrats, as a party, are not pushing impeachment is twofold: One, they recognize the lay of the political landscape. Yeah, there are a lot of #Resistance-minded loonies out there who want to see Trump air-lifted out of Washington in a replay of the Nixon resignation, and they want Democrats to do anything in their power to make it happen. But there are plenty of Obama/Trump voters out there who get really rankled when they hear talk of impeachment. They may or may not still be big fans of the president they helped elect, but they want a Democratic Party that will actually listen to them and not shunt them away in favor of becoming the party of “social justice” and the rest of the left-wing silliness. Talk of impeaching Trump is only going to drive those voters away.
Reason number two is even simpler: Democrats may have a shot at taking back the House in November, but they have literally zero chance of taking control of the Senate. So while it may be possible for them to “impeach” Trump after the midterms, it will be a meaningless show of chaos and partisan force; it will certainly not end in the legal removal of the president from office. It will only serve to show America that Democrats want badly to overturn the election and thwart the will of the people. That’s the kind of reputation the party needs to run from, not reinforce.
But don’t tell that to California congresswoman and noted moron Maxine Waters, who thinks Democrats should make the impeachment of Donald Trump a central part of the platform.
“I’ve been talking about impeachment for a long time,” Waters said on MSNBC this week. “My party has not made this their central issue. They have insisted they need to talk about the issues that they believe are central to the concern of the American people. They wanted to make sure that the American people understand and always understood that Medicare is very important, Medicaid is very important. The Obamacare initiative that was signed into law and has been active in making sure that every human being, every citizen has the opportunity to have healthcare. These are the issues that they’ve been talking about. They want to keep it at the American forefront. You know I’ve been saying we can walk and chew gum at the same time. There is no reason why we shouldn’t talk about those issues, but allow the American people to understand that we know something is going on.”
We get a headache whenever we listen to this fool speak because it’s so blatantly obvious that she has absolutely no idea what’s going on. She just bloviates and keeps talking in the hopes that somehow, by some miracle of nature, a statement of substance will emerge.
It seldom does.
