Google and other members of the Big Tech establishment have been desperately trying to convince conservatives that they are not twisting their business practices to suit the Democratic Party, but it seems that rarely a week goes by that we don’t get another sad example of these companies putting their thumbs on the scale.
The latest example comes from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who obtained an email sent in November 2016 from Google’s head of multicultural marketing, Eliana Murillo. It would appear that Murillo was concerned about multicultural marketing at the time, for sure. The question is whether she was more interesting in promoting Google…or Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
“An email obtained exclusively by this show reveals that a senior Google employee deployed the company’s resources to increase voter turnout in ways she believed would help the Clinton campaign win in the last election,” Carlson said. “In her email, Murillo touts Google’s multifaceted efforts to boost Hispanic in the election. She knows that Latinos voted in record-breaking numbers, especially in states like Florida, Nevada, and Arizona.”
According to Carlson, Google’s efforts to get out the Latino vote were extraordinary and effective. She said in the email that Google “used its power to ensure that millions of people saw certain hashtags and social media impressions with the goal of influencing their behavior during the election.”
“At the end of her email,” Carlson noted, “Murillo makes it clear that Google was working to get Hillary Clinton elected.”
“Ultimately, after all was said and done, the Latino community did come out to vote, and completely surprised us,” the email said. “We never anticipated 29% of Latinos would vote for Trump. No one did.”
If you feel a twinge of satisfaction from knowing that Google’s efforts to help elect Hillary Clinton backfired, feel not ashamed. It’s not only gratifying to see a liberal wasteland like Silicon Valley realize there are limits to their powers of influence but to see anyone on the left realize that Hispanics – much like blacks, women, gays, and any other minority – are not the ideological monolith they want them to be.
“If you see a Latino Googler in the office, please give them a smile,” Murillo concluded. “They are probably hurting right now. You can rest assured that the Latinos of these blue states need your thoughts and prayers for them and their families.”
As for the Latinos who voted for Trump, to hell with them, right?
