Democrats Already Talking Impeachment for Brett Kavanaugh

As of Friday morning, it seemed all but certain that Democrats were set to lose the confirmation fight against Brett Kavanaugh; despite a masterfully-orchestrated smear campaign and some credible, sympathetic testimony from Dr. Christine Ford, the balance of evidence just wasn’t enough to sway Republicans off the mark. With the decision headed for a vote on Saturday, it seems that the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is still alive in America, even if we cannot seriously say it is well.

Democrats, however, aren’t pausing to lick their wounds. Quite proud of the way they’ve comported themselves over the past two weeks, they’re planning to take the fight against Kavanaugh past the hearings and into the man’s Supreme Court career. Thus, sources inside Washington are saying that the Democrats, should they win control of Congress in November, intend to impeach Justice Kavanaugh as one of their first orders of business.

Brian Fallon, Hillary Clinton’s former communications director, made the warning explicit with a Thursday tweet: “If Senate GOP ignores Dr. Blasey Ford and tries to muscle an attempted rapist onto the Supreme Court: 1. They will pay dearly this November. 2. Senators up in 2020 (Collins, Gardner et al) will feel intense heat for next two years. 3. Kavanaugh will not serve for life.”

Last week, in an interview with Fox News, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said the possibility of impeachment was certainly looming in Kavanaugh’s future.

“If the Republicans rush through a nominee where you have unanswered sexual assault allegations, I can promise you that Democratic senators will be interested in going and looking at those allegations, and if Judge Kavanaugh lied under oath, you could see a judicial impeachment, and that’s not good for anybody, so we should try and avoid that,” Swalwell said.

By “avoid that,” he of course means, “we should vote against Kavanaugh.” Not, “Ok, we tried our best, now let’s put this nasty business behind us.”

Call us crazy, but we think Democrats have strongly overplayed their hand here. You wouldn’t know it from watching the mainstream media, of course, but then again, you wouldn’t have seen Trump’s victory coming, either. The left thinks that this witch hunt against Kavanaugh played well with the women they need to win in November, but we’re not so sure. We’re not sure about that at all. We think it’s just as likely that Americans were disgusted by this charade and that this was exactly the kind of fire necessary to get complacent Republicans out to the polls.

If you like your new Supreme Court justice, you can keep your new Supreme Court justice.

But only if you vote.
