The FBI may be investigating the sexual assault claims against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but Sen. Lindsey Graham is promising to conduct an investigation of an entirely different kind. In an interview with ABC News on Sunday, the South Carolina Republican said the American people deserved to know the truth about the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee and their ruthless efforts to railroad Kavanaugh by any means necessary.
“We’re going to do a wholesale, full scale investigation of what I think was a despicable process to deter it from happening again,” Graham said. “The FBI will do a supplemental background investigation, then I’m going to call for an investigation of what happened in this committee.
“Who betrayed Dr. Ford’s trust?” he asked. “Who in Feinstein’s office recommended Katz as a lawyer? Why did Ms. Ford not know that the committee was willing to go to California?”
Dianne Feinstein has denied that she was the one behind the leak of Ford’s letter to the media, but it’s difficult to imagine where else it would have come from. Graham said he accepted Feinstein’s word on the matter, but he said there was still plenty of reason to do an investigation.
“All I can tell you is it came from somebody with a political motive,” he said. “No friend would do this to Dr. Ford.”
To be perfectly honest about it, the treachery that has characterized the Democrats’ role in this confirmation hearing goes well beyond (and before) the Ford accusations. From Day One, everyone from Chuck Schumer to Kamala Harris to Bernie Sanders made it perfectly clear that they had one goal and one goal only: To block Brett Kavanaugh using any means at their disposal. For a long time, we scoffed at their petty obstructionism. With only 49 votes in the Senate, what means did they have to carry through on their threats?
Well, we can see now that we were so, so naïve. We underestimated just how low these cretins would sink to protect abortion as a – eyeroll, please – constitutional right. We underestimated just how much fury had built up at the fact that they were no longer in control of the country – how much rage they still had over Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton. We didn’t know that they would stop at literally nothing to protect that Supreme Court seat and keep it out of conservative hands. Now we know. Now we know what these people are truly capable of.
We won’t forget again.
