Brenda Snipes Resigns After Failing to Cheat Republicans Out of Election

Broward Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes, having proven herself to either be one of the most incompetent officials in the country or one of the most corrupt, submitted her resignation this week after putting one more black mark on Florida election history.

Snipes presided over one of two Florida counties that just couldn’t get their you-know-what together in the wake of the midterm elections. Under her supervision, Broward was unable to get their vote count completed; worse, Snipes could not even tell interested observers how many ballots were left to be counted, how many had been counted, or even just what in the hell was going on in her county. In violation of the law, her office regularly failed to update the ongoing results of the election.

This incompetence (or worse) was only compounded on Saturday when Snipes said that her office had lost more than 2,000 ballots that had been included in the original vote totals. These ballots were therefore uncounted in the machine recount. Snipes’ best guess? That they were somewhere in her office, probably mixed in with all the rest of the ballots.

Like all good Democrats do when they are called out on their failure to get the job done, Snipes blamed others for her woes. In remarks to reporters, she said, “I have to say, this is the first time that this office or I have been under such attacks. There have been issues that haven’t gone the way we wanted it. You can call it a mistake or you can call it whatever you want to call it.”

Many Republicans called it fraud, including Gov. Rick Scott, whose election victory over Sen. Bill Nelson hung in the balance thanks to Broward’s shenanigans. He was joined by a chorus of other Florida Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio, who was merciless in his criticism of the shady recount process.

“Broward elections department has a history of violating the law,” Rubio tweeted on November 8.

Even the Republican who originally appointed Snipes – former Gov. Jeb Bush – said it was time for Snipes to be shown the door.

“There is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process,” Bush tweeted. “Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts.”

Apparently she’s decided she won’t wait around to be booted out of office by Gov. Scott or his soon-to-be-sworn-in successor, Ron DeSantis. She did everything she could to muck up their victories. At the end of the day, though, even that bit of chicanery proved to be beyond her capabilities. Sayonara, Brenda.
