In a letter to the FBI Director and the Justice Department this week, Sen. Chuck Grassley of the Senate Judiciary Committee requested information about a November 19 raid on the home of Dennis Nathan Cain.
Cain was the contractor who blew the whistle on the FBI’s failure to investigate Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her role in approving the sale of mining company Uranium One to a Russian government subsidiary in 2013.
According to Cain’s lawyer, the raid, conducted by 16 FBI agents on his client’s Maryland home, was carried out because the FBI suspected he was in possession of stolen federal property. Cain has responded that he has protected whistleblower status under an agreement with the Department of Justice’s internal watchdog, Michael Horowitz. Cain’s lawyer further insists that he has already handed over copies of all internal FBI documents pertaining to the investigation to the relevant House and Senate intelligence investigators.

The Justice Department’s inspector general was informed that the documents show that federal officials failed to investigate potential criminal activity regarding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation and Rosatom, the Russian company that purchased Uranium One, a document reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation alleges.
The delivered documents also show that then-FBI Director Robert Mueller failed to investigate allegations of criminal misconduct pertaining to Rosatom and to other Russian government entities attached to Uranium One, the document reviewed by TheDCNF alleges. Mueller is now the special counsel investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.
“The bureau raided my client to seize what he legally gave Congress about the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One,” the whistleblower’s lawyer, Michael Socarras, told TheDCNF, noting that he considered the FBI’s raid to be an “outrageous disregard” of whistleblower protections.
In his letter to the inspector general, Sen. Grassley wrote: “A recent news report has indicated that the FBI raided the home of a ‘whistleblower,’ Mr. Dennis Nathan Cain, who provided documents regarding the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One transaction to your office.
“The report also notes that after receiving the documents, you provided them to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees,” he continued. “It appears, based on the reporting, that these documents were provided to your office under the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act. Further, it appears that the documents pertain to matters that fall within this Committee’s jurisdiction and matters upon which this Committee has inquired.”
Grassley has asked that the FBI and the DOJ provide all relevant documents pertaining to the raid to his committee by December 12.
