It’s still far too early to make any realistic predictions about the 2020 election, save perhaps one: If things keep going the way they are, this could turn out to be the most expensive election in American history. Both the Republican National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released their February fundraising numbers this week, and it shows both parties on their way to shattering all-time records as they gear up for what promises to be an explosive campaign season.
According to The Daily Caller, the RNC raised $14.6 million in February, setting a record for a non-election year and raking in more money for ANY February since 2004. That’s on top of the fact that the RNC continues to outpace the DNC in terms of fundraising, and the fact that the national party is completely debt-free, putting them in prime position to be a fundraising monster on behalf of President Donald Trump in 2020.
The DNC may be lagging somewhat behind the RNC when it comes to raising money, but their congressional fundraising committee is on point. The DCCC announced Wednesday that they’d taken in a record-shattering $11.6 million in February, which is more than they’ve raised in any other February – even including those that fell during a presidential election year.
“Democrats across America aren’t wasting a second to protect and expand our new majority,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos told Politico. “The fact that we just had our strongest February in the history of the DCCC shows that our momentum is only growing. I’m proud to lead a DCCC that’s supported by grassroots donors who believe in bringing down the cost of health care, raising wages for everyday Americans and holding Washington Republicans accountable for their culture of corruption.”
Ignoring her political spin, there’s no question that both Democrats and Republicans have their game faces on for 2020. More importantly, these figures prove that Americans are highly engaged for next year’s election, which is saying something when you consider how far out we still are. Trump supporters want to ensure that the Democrats can’t ruin the MAGA gains of the last two years by implementing their perverse brand of economy-killing socialism. Democrats are ready to turn their #Resistance into a reality by finally ousting the Big Bad Bogeyman.
It will be a confrontation of historic proportions, and both sides will come to the battle with unprecedented war chests. Get ready, because it’s going to be epic.
