One Classified Document Will Prove the FBI Knew the Steele Dossier Was Junk

In an interview with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham said that he could erase all doubts about the FBI and its abuse of the FISA court with just a single classified document. Graham said that he was working to declassify the sensitive document so that the American people could see how the FBI used the Steele dossier as evidence for a warrant, even though they knew the dossier was nothing but partisan junk.

“There’s a document that’s classified that I’m going to try to get unclassified that takes the dossier, all the pages of it, and it has verification to one side,” Graham said. “There really is no verification, other than media reports that were generated by reporters that received the dossier. So, the bottom line is the dossier has never been independently confirmed. It was used to get a warrant. They knew the author of the dossier was on the Democrat Party payroll. He hated Trump; they got the warrant anyway. Most Americans should be very upset about that. I’m very upset about it. And we’re going to get to the bottom of it.”

Much about the FBI’s shady dealings with the dossier and the FISA court are already in the public domain. For instance, thanks to the intrepid work of Rep. Devin Nunes, we know that the FBI went out of their way to downplay the dossier’s political origins. We also know that they used a Yahoo News article about the dossier to give the information extra credence with the court. Only problem? The dossier’s author, Christopher Steele, was the direct source for that article.

Congress is also aware of intense problems with the way the Justice Department handled the Carter Page warrants. According to The Hill’s John Solomon, Steele admitted to a State Department confidant that he was working for Trump’s political enemies on business that needed to be done before the election. Graham alluded to this bombshell in the interview.

“But for the dossier, there would be no warrant against Carter Page,” Graham said. “The meeting on October 11 was 10 days before the FISA warrant application. So the FBI was on notice that their confidential informant went to the Department of State to urge the Department of State to take the dossier and leak it to the public to affect the election. That’s about as sick as it gets.”

Attorney General William Barr has reportedly put the U.S. Attorney for Colorado to task investigating the disturbing story of how the FBI came to probe the Trump campaign in the first place. With that investigation, the DOJ’s Inspector General report, and the work Graham is doing with the Senate Intelligence Committee, we may get to the bottom of this scandal at last. And then, hopefully, we will see some heads roll.
