Alex Trebek Credits Prayer for Recovery. NBC News Censors It.

Longtime Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is in the fight of his life against stage-four pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis that usually holds very little good news for those it afflicts. But while Trebek is not out of the woods yet, he has experienced what can only be deemed a miraculous recovery that has shocked his doctors, his fans, and the game-show legend himself. In an interview with People magazine this week, Trebek said there was only one explanation for his cancer having gone into “near remission”: Prayer.

“The doctors said that they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory. Some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent,” Trebek told the magazine. “It’s kind of mind-boggling. I’ve already gone from where I was to this. The doctors are so excited, just beside themselves with joy.

“I told the doctors, this has to be more than just chemo,” Trebek continued. “I’ve had a couple million people out there who expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy and their prayers. The doctors said it could very well be an important part of this.”

If you want to deny that the prayers of millions of Americans made the difference for Trebek’s prognosis, we won’t argue with you. If we know anything, it’s that God’s ways are mysterious and it is usually folly to try to make “sense” out of these things using human rationality. Perhaps God wanted to use Trebek’s miraculous recovery as a way to reach people with his Word. Perhaps Trebek just got “lucky.” We don’t know, and we’re not going to guess.

What we do know, though, is that he has every right to believe that all of those prayers helped him to reach this stage of healing. And he has certainly earned the right to spread that message.

But that’s apparently just too much for the people at NBC News, who went out of their way to censor any mention of “prayer” in their report on Trebek’s recovery. In their segment on Trebek, NBC Nightly News played several soundbites and clips from the People article. When it came to the section where Trebek credited prayer, the reporter slyly read it like this: “He tells People, “I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed good thoughts… I told the doctors this has to be more than just the chemo.”

That’s not an accident. That’s a deliberate attempt to shield NBC News viewers from any mention of prayer or God. Whether that’s a shot across the bow at Christianity or just part of the overall left-wing gun agenda, which has made a mockery out of the phrase “thoughts and prayers,” we can’t say. Either way, it’s unacceptable and disturbing.

While we’re at it, hats off to David Muir and ABC News, who also ran a story on Trebek. Unlike NBC, they kept the part about prayer in the segment. Somehow, their viewers survived.
