Sarah Sanders Says Goodbye as Melania’s Spokeswoman Takes Over

Friday will be White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders’ last day on the job, and President Donald Trump has hired a sterling replacement for her: Melania Trump’s top aide and spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham. While Grisham has not been nearly as “in the spotlight” as Sanders for the last three years, she has been every bit as competent, capable, and vociferous in her defense of the oft-attacked First Lady. If she can bring that same fire to the White House podium, she may be just the woman to fill the inimitable shoes of the departing Sanders.

“I am pleased to announce @StephGrisham45 will be the next @PressSec & Comms Director!” Melania tweeted on Tuesday. “She has been with us since 2015 – @potus & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country. Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse.”

Grisham will have quite the workload on her plate, as the first lady intimated. Not only will she be retaining her position as Melania’s spokeswoman and taking over the job for Sanders, she’ll also fill the position left vacant by Bill Shine – that of White House communications director. But as one of the Trump Team members who has been around since the near-beginning of the 2016 campaign, she has undoubtedly earned the president’s trust.

On Tuesday, Sanders praised her successor in glowing terms, saying Grisham “will be an incredible asset to the president and the country.”

“I’m sad to leave the WH,” Sanders tweeted, “but so happy to leave our team in such great hands. Stephanie will do a phenomenal job. Proud to have another mom and a great friend in this role.”

Well, perhaps Grisham will be treated with a little more kindness and respect by the media/opposition party than the woman she’s re—

Oh, who are we kidding?

“In case you thought there were no consequences for violating the Hatch Act in the Trump administration (silly you!), Hatch Act violator Stephanie Grisham just got promoted. That’ll teach her,” wrote nonstop Trump critic Walter Shaub, formerly of the Office of Government Ethics.

“The newest Press Secretary for @realDonaldTrump is Stephanie Grisham. She was the Arizona House GOP spokesperson who revoked the media credentials in 2016 for their refusal to take a background check. @StephGrisham45,” whined the Arizona Capitol Times.

“Stephanie Grisham already has plenty of experience lying to to the American people to cover up scandals, so she’ll be a perfect fit to replace Sarah Sanders as White House Press Secretary,” tweeted feminist Caroline Orr.

Welp, hopefully Grisham knows what she’s getting herself into.
