Dems Have No Fealty to Constitution, But a Poem On the Other Hand…

It’s really extraordinary when you get a closeup look into the diseased, collective mind of the left. Can you even call it a mind? No, that would presuppose that there is at least a degree of thinking going on over there. There’s no thinking. There is nothing other than irrational, emotional wailing and gnashing of teeth. Thus, we are delivered unto outlandish “controversies” like the one that erupted this week when Acting ICE Director Ken Cuccinelli has the GALL to edit a new line into the poem on the Statue of Liberty.

“Would you also agree that Emma Lazarus’s words etched on the Statue of Liberty, ‘Give me your tired, give me your poor,’ are also a part of the American ethos?” asked NPR’s Rachel Martin.

Cuccinelli replied: “They certainly are: ‘Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge.’ That plaque was put on the Statue of Liberty at almost the same time as the first public charge was passed — very interesting timing.”

Well, you would have thought that Cuccinelli personally whipped it out and urinated on the U.S. Constitution.

Except, of course, that the left doesn’t care a whit about the Constitution, insisting that it is a “living, breathing document” written by a bunch of backwards white supremacists who couldn’t have foreseen the outrageous idea that guns might get more efficient in the years after they penned the Second Amendment. These leftists actually believe that a woman’s right to an abortion can be found in the Bill of Rights, but not the right to bear arms. They would just as soon scrap the Constitution and start over from scratch.

Oh, but a poem written forty years after the Statue of Liberty was constructed? Now THAT’S important. Now THAT is an inviolable pillar of U.S. law!

The left may loathe Cuccinelli’s attempt to update the poem, but frankly, as Curtis Houck pointed out on Twitter, Lazarus didn’t write “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to receive free money, health care, and services for life.”

Exactly how much welfare was the U.S. government handing out in 1903, anyway? How much of it was going to non-citizens?

The U.S. has always been a land of opportunity, and nothing about that has changed. The only thing that’s changed is that leftists want to twist the ladder of opportunity into a permanent bed. If we are to keep this nation healthy, wealthy, and successful, that cannot be allowed.
