A year and a half after getting fired from the FBI for lying about his leaks to the media, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has a new gig: He’ll be a contributor for Anti-Trump network CNN, in yet another sign of how much our media landscape has deteriorated from the good ol’ days of (at least pretend) objectivity. McCabe, whose role in covering for Hillary Clinton and furthering the witch hunt into the Trump campaign is quite disturbing, will be providing undoubtedly-biased commentary for the cable news channel – much to the chagrin of Trump and Republicans, who say the move is nothing less than “disgraceful.”
“Such a sad and pathetic fall for @CNN and Jeff Z!” Trump said, referencing network president Jeff Zucker.
Trump was not the only one alarmed by the hire.
“Andrew McCabe: fired for lying to the FBI, caught by the Inspector General for unauthorized media leaks, and — worst of all — one of the ring-leaders in spreading the debunked and disastrous ‘Russian collusion’ conspiracy theory. His reward? A paid CNN contract. Comical,” tweeted Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC).
The NRA’s Dana Loesch couldn’t help but point out the glaring hypocrisy: “So those at CNN who were up in arms over Fox hiring [Sarah Huckabee] Sanders and [Sean] Spicer appearing on Dancing with the Stars are celebrating their network’s hiring of Andrew McCabe, who, unlike Spicer and Sanders, lied under oath and was referred for criminal charges by the IG.”
Mollie Hemingway, a conservative columnist for The Federalist, said it was a marriage made in heaven: “Andrew McCabe, one of the central figures of the ‘Russia collusion’ hoax, who was fired from the FBI for lying about his leaks to the media, has been hired by CNN, one of the media outlets that did the most to perpetuate the damaging hoax.”
Journalist Yashar Ali wondered if CNN would let viewers know about McCabe’s precarious legal situation.
“McCabe is still the subject of a federal criminal investigation,” he tweeted. “McCabe is suing the Justice Department and the FBI. Is CNN going to disclose that fact every time he is on air? I’m assuming they’re hiring him to talk about matters related to criminal justice and not the stock market.”
Well, we found out the answer to that on Friday, when McCabe made his CNN debut with host Alisyn Camerota, who introduced him like this: “So joining us now is the former acting director of the FBI, Andrew Mccabe. He is also the newest member of the CNN team. So we welcome him. He is joining us for his first appearance as a CNN contributor. Also, as our viewers know, I should get this in, Andrew, you were fired by the FBI 48 hours before your pension vested. You’re now suing the FBI and DOJ to get your pension back.”
She made no mention of why he was fired.
What a joke this network has become.
