The House select committee investigating Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack is set to interview former Secret Service agent Tony Ornato on Tuesday. Those on the panel are looking at Ornato’s testimony in order to verify information that they have previously become privy to regarding the actions that former President Trump took on Jan. 6. This is following a number of testimonies, in one of which was mentioned that Trump had at the time lunged at his security detail.
On Tuesday, the committee will be discussing the incidents of Jan. 6 with Ornato, who was Trump’s deputy chief of staff at the time. This is the third time that Ornato is called in for an interview with the panel.
Ornato was a central figure in the testimony given by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who testified during the public hearings this past summer. Hutchinson told the panel that Ornato had relayed a story to her about Trump reaching for the steering wheel of his vehicle in an attempt to move the car towards the U.S. Capitol. This was while protestors had entered the federal building in an attempt to block the certification of the 2020 election.
So far, this account has been dismissed as Secret Service officials have claimed that there was no such altercation between any official and Trump.
