Democrats Strip 2nd Amendment Rights From Americans

House Democrats on Wednesday agreed to push forward legislation that would allow for the compilation of a federally controlled list of people who would be banned from purchasing guns.

The bill is meant to be used in order to reduce the number of gun suicides. Those supporting the legislation note that more than 25,000 Americans yearly use a gun to end their life. The proposal led by Reps. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and John Curtis, R-Utah, would allow anyone who fears that they might purchase a gun to end their lives, to enroll themselves on the list. From there they would immediately be blocked from buying a gun.

The House Judiciary Committee approved the bill on Wednesday. The vote fell on party lines, as Republicans have maintained that this is another attempt by the Democrats to institute a ban on firearms.

Judiciary Committee ranking member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio questioned the extent to which a federal statute was necessary for people “to volunteer to give up their fundamental liberty?” He added that while mental health was certainly important, especially in cases of suicide consideration, this bill does not make sense and it is just another attack on the Second Amendment filed by the Democrats.
