The Boy Scouts of America announced Monday that their organization was now open to girls. After more than a hundred years of gender-exclusivity, the Scouts bowed to political pressure at last and opened the membership rolls to any child that claims to be a boy…even if their birth certificate says otherwise.
In the latest sign that it will take more than a new president to restore American greatness, the organization will now open its doors to transgender boys, erasing its legacy as a home for traditional family values and norms.
The move comes in the wake of a controversial New Jersey case where an 8-year-old Cub Scout was asked to leave the program after it was revealed that “he” was actually a she.
“We’ve taken the opportunity to evaluate and update our approach. I hope you’ll join with me in embracing the opportunity to bring scouting to more families and children who can benefit from what our organization has to offer,” said the Scouts’ chief executive in a statement. “This is an area that we will continue to thoughtfully evaluate to bring the benefits of scouting to the greatest number of youth possible all while remaining true to our core beliefs.”
Transgender children are so rare that this is unlikely to have much of an effect on your average local Scout pack, but the symbolism is destructive enough on its own. Traditional families with conservative beliefs will have to think long and hard about putting their kids in the Boy Scouts. What will they be learning? What insidious LGBT merit badges will be added to the program? We can only shake our heads and sigh.
This has gone beyond the regular boundaries of Left vs. Right. We’re talking about a cultural shift away from the underpinnings of civilized society. You want to talk about fake news? Really? What could possibly be faker than the belief that boys are girls and girls are boys and there really isn’t any difference between them? Where does our country end up when we start entertaining this kind of insanity?
We suppose that question will be answered soon enough, but we’ve got a pretty good guess…
