(Supposed) Democratic 2020 contender Beto O’Rourke went even further to ensure the end of his Texas political career on Thursday when it was his turn to pander to the LGBT audience watching CNN’s town hall on gay equality. O’Rourke, who has already cemented the doom of his presidential aspirations with his outlandish “Hell yeah, we’re gonna take your AR-15s” proclamation at the last Democrat debate, was only too happy to explain how he would force religious institutions into accepting the left’s doctrine on gay marriage.
Asked if he would penalize churches that oppose gay marriage by taking away their tax-exempt statuses, O’Rourke said, “Yes.”
“There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for anyone that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us,” O’Rourke said (with no hint of irony, considering his stance on guns). “And so as president, we are going to make that a priority, and we are going to stop those who are infringing upon the human rights of our fellow Americans.”
O’Rourke also said that, as president, he would see to it that any group trying to help people turn away from the gay lifestyle would be criminalized. “We will ensure that there are penalties stiff enough and enforcement vigorous enough to make sure it does not continue.”
Hmm. You have to wonder what O’Rourke’s answer would have been if it were understood that the moderators were talking about the teachings within mosques rather than those of the Christian church. Think he would have had the same gumption to go after people’s religious liberties? Somehow, we doubt it.
Speaking at the Values Voter Summit this weekend, Trump took aim at O’Rourke’s un-American positions.
“As you know, just a few days ago, a Democrat running for president proposed revoking the tax-exempt status of many churches and religious groups,” Trump said. “And you why, and you know it is. He’s a wacko. I will never allow the federal government to be used to target, harass or punish communities of faith and I will never allow the IRS to be used as a political weapon, as it has been and it is currently being used. It has been used so viciously, so violently against many people in the room.”
As we all recall from the Obama years.
It’s at times like these, looking at the field of Democrats running to be president, that we’re enormously grateful to have a warrior like Trump in the Oval Office. We dread the day he’s gone and one of these slimeballs takes his place. It’s not going to be pretty.
P.S. – This exchange on Twitter:
“Sitting here at this @CNN Townhall and yet not one single Black Transwoman nor man has taken the mic to ask questions…this is so f**ked up!” – Blossom C. Brown.
“Blossom, thank you for making your voice heard tonight. We will hold a town hall focused on trans women of color. And I hope you’ll be there.” – Beto O’Rourke.
Look, we finally found something that has less of a chance of happening than Beto becoming president.
