FISA Abuse Investigation is DONE and the Report is on the Way

Americans who want to see exactly how badly the Justice Department flaunted the laws protecting citizens from intrusive, politically-motivated government surveillance will soon be rewarded for their patience. A report from the Daily Caller confirms that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz has completed his long investigation into the FBI’s abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that occurred during the 2016 election. Horowitz has sent the DOJ a draft version of the report for review, which means the public should see the finished version within just a few weeks.

From the Daily Caller:

“We have now begun the process of finalizing our report by providing a draft of our factual findings to the Department and the FBI for classification determination and marking,” Michael Horowitz, the inspector general, said in a letter to several congressional committees.

Horowitz, an Obama appointee, opened an investigation March 28, 2018, into the FBI’s applications for FISA warrants against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

He informed the committees on June 25 that the investigation was “nearing completion,” and that his office had interviewed more than 100 witnesses and reviewed more than 1 million documents in the probe.

The FBI relied heavily on the infamous and unverified Steele dossier in applications for the warrants.

The special counsel’s report severely undercut dossier author Christopher Steele’s claim that there was a “well-developed conspiracy of co-operation” between the Trump campaign and Russian government.

The special counsel said there was no evidence of a conspiracy involving the Trump team. There was also no evidence that Page or any other Trump associates acted as agents of Russia.

To date, the feds have brought exactly zero charges against Page or anyone else in Trump’s orbit related to the Big Russian Hoax. Yes, Mueller & Friends did prosecute former campaign manager Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, and others, but none of those charges had anything to do with colluding with the Russians. As for Page, he has never been charged with anything, a fact that proves all by itself that the FBI had no business getting a warrant to surveil him for months on end.

This report could have wide-ranging implications. Certainly, we expect to see the depths to which the FBI went to shield from the FISA court the political origins of the Steele dossier. We may also get a glimpse into a subject the DOJ/FBI is eager to avoid: The true origins of the Trump/Russia investigation. While not the main topic of concern in Horowitz’s report, we imagine that it’s touched upon to some degree. When this report is released, it’s probably going to be a bad day for the Peter Strzoks and Jim Comeys of the world.

Can’t wait.
