Thanks to San Francisco’s new district attorney, life in the Bay Area is likely to get a lot…dirtier. That’s because the newly-elected Chesa Boudin – the son of left-wing Weather Underground terrorists – is on record saying that his office will do nothing to clean up the once-majestic California city. Indeed, Boudin has said that he will not prosecute crimes that deface and disgustify the city. Put another way, Boudin is giving homeless people, drug addicts, vandals, and ne’er-do-wells the green light: Go ahead and trash San Francisco, because we’re not going to do a thing about it.
What could possibly go wrong?

In response to an American Civil Liberties Union questionnaire reported by The San Francisco Chronicle last month, Chesa Boudin said such crimes should not be prosecuted.
“We will not prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes,” he said. “Crimes such as public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, blocking a sidewalk, etc., should not and will not be prosecuted. Many of these crimes are still being prosecuted; we have a long way to go to decriminalize poverty and homelessness.”
Boudin, a progressive attorney and former public defender, defeated the city’s top prosecutor last week after promising sweeping criminal justice reforms. He was one of several progressive candidates elected to district attorney offices across the country in recent years.
In remarks to the press after winning election this weekend, Boudin confirmed that his office would not prosecute these types of crime.
“There can be no justice when we utilize prison and jail as the solution to all of our problems,” he said. “We must think differently.”
Right, “justice” can only be achieved when we let people do whatever they want to do, even if that means defecating on the sidewalks, using the public parks as needle depositories, and urinating in front of every third storefront. What a disgrace.
This city has a major problem on its hands, and they show no willingness to do a thing about it. It wasn’t that long ago that San Francisco was one of the most beautiful major cities in the country. In the last decade, it has gone downhill fast. They have three choices: They can either build new housing for the homeless and spend some real money getting these people off the street, or they can bus them out of town, or they can begin seriously enforcing the law. You can’t just throw up your hands, say that these people have the right to pee on the street, and turn the other way. That way lies the death of your city.
