Thriving: Laura Ingraham’s Ratings Remain High After Liberal Boycott

Two weeks ago, advertisers were pulling their support of Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show as if running spots on “The Ingraham Angle” was going to throw them into immediate bankruptcy. Driven by Parkland survivor David Hogg’s threatened boycott of Ingraham’s advertisers, weak-kneed companies followed one right after another as they ran for the exits. All this because Ingraham made a tweet gently mocking Hogg for whining about his college rejections.

But perhaps all hope is not lost for the firebrand conservative. Not only has Fox News declined to censure or punish Ingraham in any way, they have rallied behind her in a way that made us love the channel more than we already did. Furthermore, her ratings upon returning from vacation were equal to her ratings before this controversy began, proving that Hogg and his minions did no real damage to her brand. And perhaps best of all, there are already signs that companies that pulled out in the immediate aftermath of the Hogg controversy are now starting to rethink their haste.

On Friday, Ace Hardware announced that they were going back on their decision to yank their ads from “The Ingraham Angle.” In an interview with The Hill, a spokesman for the company said they would maintain their support for the show.

“The information we had at the time of the initial request was incomplete and we apologize for that,” a spokesman said. “Advertising on any network or show is in no way an endorsement from Ace of the content contained or spoken within that program. We appreciate the different points of view from our customers, and believe people should be treated with respect and civility. At this time, we have not altered our current media schedule; however, we regularly review our media strategy.”

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of “The Ingraham Angle,” but you can certainly hear the tones of “Oh, we might have spoken too soon” in that statement. A company like Ace Hardware is naturally going to depend more heavily on the support of conservatives; liberals don’t do home repair as a general rule because they don’t have homes to repair.

Okay, okay, we don’t really know if that’s true, but it does SEEM true…

“We love @AceHardware!” tweeted Laura Ingraham on Friday. “We’re buying a wheel barrow and other gardening tools at @AceHardware this weekend.”

As long as Ingraham’s ratings stay at the top of the pile, more advertisers will either return or rush in to fill in the gaps. The left took their best stab at silencing dissent and they failed. May it ever continue to be so.
