Clinton Diagnosed with Pneumonia, Cancels California Trip

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made an abrupt departure from a 9/11 anniversary ceremony on Sunday after falling ill. Clinton, who was overheated and dehydrated, stumbled off a curb and was helped into a van. Hours after the incident, her campaign revealed that she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday, according to a report from the Associated Press.

Clinton’s health scare is a blow for the campaign, as rival Donald Trump has been questioning the candidate’s health for months. Trump has asserted that Clinton lacks the stamina to be president.

Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, Clinton’s doctor, said she became dehydrated and overheated at the 9/11 event, but is now recovering. According to her physician, Clinton had an allergy-related cough. After a follow-up exam on Friday, the she was diagnosed with pneumonia and put on antibiotics. She was advised to rest and change her schedule.

A spokesman for the Clinton campaign said the candidate went to her daughter’s nearby apartment after leaving the event in lower Manhattan.

Clinton emerged from her daughter’s apartment just before noon, waving to reporters and stating that she “felt great.”

Clinton has made no public appearances since the incident and has since canceled her trip to California for fundraising events and her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show.
