Clinton Formally Accepts Democratic Nomination in Historic Night at the DNC

Hillary Clinton made history on Thursday night when she formally accepted the Democratic nomination. The former secretary of state closed out a week of outlining the party’s argument against Republican nominee Donald Trump and highlighting America’s strengths.

“America is once again at a moment of reckoning,” said Clinton. “Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying. And just as with our founders, there are no guarantees: it truly is up to us.”

The theme for the final evening of the convention was “Stronger Together,” Clinton’s campaign slogan. She spoke about unity, not just in the Democratic Party, but in the United States as a whole.

The former secretary of state said America’s motto is “out of many, we are one,” and took a jab at Donald Trump’s policies, which she says will divide America from the rest of the world and each other.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that our country is weak – we’re not,” Clinton said. “Don’t let anyone tell you we don’t have what it takes – we do.”

The Democratic convention saw several Republicans on stage showing their support of Clinton. She made an appeal to independents and Republicans who are both turned off by Trump.

“I will be president for Democrats, Republicans and Independents,” she said. “For the struggling, the striving and the successful,” she added.

Clinton nodded to Sanders supporters early on in her speech, asking them to join her in the fight against Trump.

While Clinton spent time talking about her upbringing and how she wants to bring change to America, the majority of her speech was focused on attacking Donald Trump.
