Clinton Says Sanders Supporters Were Attracted to His ‘False Promise’

Hillary Clinton expressed sympathy for Sanders supporters in a leaked audio clip from a hacked email. The former secretary of state said young voters were the “children of the Great Recession” who are still “living in their parents’ basement.” Clinton says Sanders supporters were attracted to his “false promise.”

The comments, posted by Washington Free Beacon, came from a Clinton staffer’s hacked email, which contained audio from a gathering of campaign supporters in February.

The former secretary of state said Sanders’ supporters were “new to politics completely. They’re children of the Great Recession. And they are living in their parents’ basement.”

Clinton said her campaign and supporters should be understanding of his supporters, who may feel they do not have “some other ladder of opportunity” at their current job and find joining a political revolution to be “pretty appealing.”

The Democratic nominee said there’s a deep “desire to believe that we can have free college, free healthcare” and that the U.S. needs to go as far as “you know, ‘Scandinavia,’ whatever that means.” The former secretary of state added that “half the people don’t know what that means.”

Trump took the opportunity to try and draw in Sanders supporters, accusing his opponent of “demeaning and mocking Bernie Sanders and all of his supporters.”
